Popularised by George Lucas’ original Star Wars trilogy, the fall of Anakin Skywalker is known worldwide by the ginormous fanbase of Star Wars – of which there are many. And Darth Vader is now one of the greatest villains in pop culture.

A Presence Like No Other

Cinema audiences were first introduced to Darth Vader in 1977 in Star Wars IV: A New Hope. And Vader would quickly stand apart from other villains thanks to his menacing outfit and intimidating presence, brought to life by the voice-acting talents of James Earl Jones.

He would become a primary antagonist of the Star Wars trilogy before being redeemed at the end of Return of the Jedi, sacrificing his life to put an end to the tyrannical grip of Emperor Palpatine – his lightning-shooting master.

During Revenge of the Sith, their relationship took a grave turn, and their close friendship turned to one of hostility – brought to life in a climactic battle on the surface of Mustafar.

This duel of fates would conclude with Darth Vader deformed and scarred, forced to live the remainder of his life within an armoured breathing apparatus.
