Alan Wake

A game with an excellent atmosphere thanks to his beautiful graphics : the forest, the lights, the particles are amazings nevertheless the faces of the characters are not a succes, it's a shame because the story is good and the dialogues are very important. The scenario and the graphics are the main advantages of Alan Wake. However the gameplay is very limited and repetitive : there is only few differents enemies or weapons and we do every time the same things. Besides the game is very easy even in hard so we are never stressed or frightened because we ever have a lot of ammunitions. To finish the musics are excellents and I took approximately 10 hours to finish it.

Interesting story, fantastic game

5

This game is brilliant. The story is very compelling, and the episodic delivery is fantastic. The gameplay is also quite good, although it isn't too difficult to play. The advantage of buying new as well gets you the first downloadable content for free, which is well worth getting as well, though not essential. I cannot wait for a sequel.

Surprisingly good

When I bought this game I was a little skeptic and thought this is only going to be another game trying to scare me with overused scare tactics. But it actually isn't that kind of game. I have been sucked into the story so bad I caught myself playing for 6 hours straight.

A truly engaging and exciting action adventure!

Alan Wake is a fantastic title, packing a intriguing narrative and gorgeous visuals. Finnish developer 'Remedy' wanted Wake to play out like a US TV drama, and they've succeeded in every way possible. What you see here is six in-game episodes of heart pounding, spine tingling awesome with a narrative that'll keeping you guessing right up until the final credits role. Characters are unique and engaging, with Wake's monologuing adding to the experience every step of the way. Gameplay can become quite samey, though environments remain stunning and the lighting is fluid and, at times, simply breath taking (which is fantastic, in a game built up upon a mechanic that direct involves it.) If you're a fan of engaging narrative coupled with exciting gameplay, Wake is an unmissable edition to the Xbox's exclusive collection.

Wake From The Darkness

Alan Wake has left me on many occasions through my two playthroughs of the main story with both my arm and legs hairs on constant end due to the thrilling and intense nature scenes bring towards the feel of the game. This alone I believe proves a point that Alan Wake is damn good. Events start innocently enough with Alan and his wife Alice taking a vacation in Bright Falls, until Alice is taken by unknown forces and the adventure begins. Bright Falls is a gorgeous place, seriously, gorgeous. The presentation establishes the dark tone, ensuring the player realises how trapped Alan is. Fog is dull and races through around you making you feel unsettled and on edge. The lighting is beautiful to look at in particular environments, sparks have never looked so entertaining in a recent title. Sound design is also excellent, squeals, surging, hissing winds contributes highly towards this. As you dodge axes being thrown at you and combat 'the darkness', you primarily use your flash light and other light sources such as 'Safe Havens' to escape your enemies known as 'The Taken'. Along side this light which wears down your enemies armour if you will, you can hold many guns such as a revolver, hunting rifle and other well made guns that are realistically used. Flares and flash-bangs are also a nice touch in the context of defeating your enemies. As you make you way through the game however, you come across a lot of collectives, and I mean a lot. While collecting one hundred, yes, one hundred coffee thermos seems slightly too much, other collectibles such as history signs and radio shows are a nicer touch, and the manuscript pages explain more of the story line as you collect them. Overall though there are still far too many collectibles and if you go to get them all, you are going to extend your playing time and get distracted from the mood of the storyline. Variation is used well, boss fights, car scenes and interaction with locals are fun to do and I would recommend taking the time to chat, as well as listen/watch to the various radio/tv shows you find. All of them strengthen the personality of the game and make a better overall experience. It isn't a particularly long game, and while there is a slightly weak ending, it makes you wonder that it is open to make future sequel games. It's better to have something brilliant and small rather than rubbish and large. Alan Wake is definitely not one to skip. Strong atmosphere, fun unique gameplay and spectacular visuals make this one of the top exclusive 360 games this year. Check it out.

After waiting for so long for Alan Wake i can honestly say it was worth the wait!!! A real psychological thriller, jumpy in the right parts and the episodic style it uses keeps you as gripped as an episode of your favourite TV show!! A bargain at the price, great story and looks great, you won't know if you don't buy it!!!!!

Awesome Thriller

"Allan Wake" is a Mystery/Thriller game like you have never played before. It doesn't focus that much on fighting or upgrading weapons and abilities but creating an atmosphere that envelopes you into the games reality. The game is built like a series and this makes it so appealing because after each episode , you want to know how it concludes. If you are into thrillers, then this a game you should look into.

Alan Wake, Definately Worth a Look

4

I've just finished my first playthrough of Alan Wake and can say that is an enjoyable experience, one of the better single player campaigns I've played of late. The story has been broken up into 6 episodes as if you are watching a mini tv series, at the beginning of each you get a cool 'Previously on Alan Wake' run down of what has gone before. The graphics, sound, and score are generally excellent, the environment has been beautifully created and the sonics all add to the spooky nature of the game. The exception is the lip syncing which is dire, like watching Cadet Jones on Police Academy throw his voice, unbelievable. The combat system is good, shining light on the enemy to break the 'Darkness' before filling them with lead, reminds me a bit of the sequence in Gears of War where you destroy the flying locust swarm with the light on the tank. The campaign feels about the right length and is paced well, never feeling too short or long.
