To be honest, i was so looking forward to this game. But is it a game. I feel so detached from this....eeeer game. Or is it a movie, i can sometimes control??? All i seem to do, for the main character, Jodie, is every now and again, follow onscreen instructions, (right thumbstick up, down, right, up, etc). And walk. Lots of walking. Oh, then run, then follow more onscreen button prompts. You, as a player, never feel immersed, or in danger, or threatened. Your character never dies, you just immediately replay the very last scene you failed at. It took me three go`s to step over some broken glass in a door panel, (yes, it gets that mundane), by pressing right trigger for her right leg, then left trigger for...you guessed it....her left leg. But i didnt do it correctly. Let go of the right trigger too early....Fail!!! Booooring!!! And for Aiden, her unseen friend, all you ever have to do, is hold the left 1 button,, then pull or push both sticks in the desired direction. This either moves objects or people. Thats as far as Aiden go`s. He just do`s the stuff Jodie cant, from the other side of locked doors. Seriously, not one taxing puzzle, and i`m playing it on the so-called hard (for expert gamers) mode. Pish. So simple, my 5 year old grandsons could play it. I just recently finished `Last Of Us` on hard, and i can honestly say, i had to play certain scenes, over and over, trying different routes, tactics, weapons, before i eventually succeded that particular level, but i was exhausted, panicked and emotionally moved by what and how i had done, which gave the inevitable cut scene that followed even more gravitas. I felt i had achieved something. In `Beyond Two Souls`, all i feel is....`Wow, lovely facial movements, those eyes look real`. And that brings me to the Graphics. Wow!!! The human faces are almost photo realistic. Body movements occasionally poor, but on the whole, ok. Dust, rain, snow and partical effects are awesome. Background scenery, generally great. Internal, office buildings, generally poor. So across the board, i liked `Last of Us` much more. Story wise..... It jumps timelines all over the place. It might make sense at the end, (i`m just under half way through, i just dont have the urge to play it . It became a bit let down, and my desire was gone, unlike `L.O.Us` which i couldnt wait to get home from work, to play it again`). But, the story, some of it works, some dont. But i did especially enjoy the `Homeless Jodie, on the streets` storyline. (so far). Beautifully told, rendered, with the most exciting gameplay of the game so far. This is my first time reviewing a game, well, anything to be honest. But it really has divided me, more than any game before. Normally, i either love, or hate a game, but this.....hmmmmm, i dont really know....yet!!! Thats why i decided to share my thoughts. I hope this helps.

Disappointing

After loving Farenheit and enjoying Heavy Rain, I couldn't wait for the new game from David Gage and Quantic Dream. Despite the generally amazing graphics and big budget movie style - this game plays more like a movie than an actual game, with the odd button press and no danger of dying throughout, and I was a little disappointed by the time I got to the end. As an experience, I'm glad I played but feel this is a title to rent rather than buy. Here's hoping David can include a bit more game when he comes to release his next product.

First off I wasn't sure if I should get the game as I had heard bad reviews close to the release. I was a big fan of heavy rains look and story (not so much a fan of the controls) which made me want this title. Sony released the demo and after I played that I was sold! They have improved on the control system from heavy rain and it plays a whole lot better, I'm still not a big fan though as I much prefer having full control if a character but this helps the story to unfold. The graphics are amazing and the cast of actors works really well. Even after playing the demo though I was going to wait awhile for to get the game as I still have GTA V I'm playing through but I'm a sucker for a steel book edition of any game and bluray :-)

Beyond Two Souls is an amazing PS3 exclusive that I advise anyone with a PS3 to play. The special edition includes a steelbook cover which is really nice and some digital content such as PSN avatars, an extra mission, PS3 Dynamic Theme, Making of videos and the games soundtrack. The extra content was good but not great in my opinion, but it was definitely worth it. The only thing I didn't like about the game was the way the story was set out as chapters go back and forth the main characters life which was annoying and a bit confusing for me. Apart from that Ellen Page and Willam Defoe give an amazing performance, not the best PS3 exclusive this year but still worth buying.

Beyond Two Souls Special Edition

Beyond Two Souls is a great game, I advise if you have a PS3 and enjoyed Heavy Rain you should play this game. The special edition could include more items because in my opinion there isn't enough for a special edition. The games story is a bit weird because it goes back and forth the main characters (Jodie Holmes) life which is kind of distracting and confusing at times. Despite these, the game is really good.

Beyond: Two Souls Special Edition - Steelbook

Graphically amazing, but very story heavy. Don't expect to do much in this game, far more watching then interaction. Fighting parts are awfully executed. Buy this only if you want to see excellent voice acting from William and Ellen. Contrasts between this are heavy rain are non comparable in my view. Heavy rain would win every time

Exeo - beyond excellence

I played the demo for Beyond: Two Souls Special Edition on PSN and really enjoyed it so I had no hesitation in pre ordering it. Before receiving my game, the reviews started to appear and in the main were fairly mediocre so I thought I had pre-ordered a dud. Not so, this is an excellent cinematic experience of a game with a powerful narrative. Of the games, I have played this year and that includes GTA V and The Last of Us, I would say that this and Splinter Cell Blacklist are deserved 5* games - GTA V and The Last of Us, I would give 4 1/2*. Beyond Two Souls is best played with a free phone app controller - I use the android version. This is much more straightforward than using the dual shock. A real contender for game of the the year.
