A Long-Running Sitcom
What is The Big Bang Theory, we hear you (maybe – but probably not) ask? Well, this show is one of the longest-running sitcoms around, amassing over 270 episodes across 12 science and comedy-packed seasons.
TBBT follows the story of the incredibly intelligent but socially awkward Sheldon Cooper and his roommate Leonard Hofstadter – both of whom are scientists at a university.
The pair may be highly intelligent guys with similar backgrounds but their personalities couldn’t be more different, which makes for a comical dynamic. Leonard is very laidback as opposed to the specific, stubborn nature of Sheldon. It makes for funny spats at home and at the university.
There they encounter and become friends with the brilliant duo of Rajesh Koothrappali and Howard Wolowitz, who are both truly hilarious in their very own way.
The duo is always seeking female attention, but Raj who suffers from social anxiety and initially cannot speak to women, unless he’s had a drink. Howard is quite the opposite, seeing himself as a bit of a womaniser – which makes him come across in a super sleazy way!
They make for four super-geeky but terrific characters, which is highlighted by Leonard and Sheldon’s neighbour Penny. Differing to the pair, she has dreams of becoming a famous actress, much to the amusement of Sheldon. But in the meantime, she’s waitressing at the Cheesecake Factory.
She may not boast the IQ of her new friends, but Penny is also a comical character in her own right and plays her part in this sitcom full of laughs. Amy Farrah Fowler and Bernadette Rostenkowski also deserve big shouts, especially for putting up with Sheldon and Howard.
