Evangelion 2.22 You Can (Not) Advance is awesome. It's not much of a collector's edition, but the movie? Oh god. It's amazing. Buy it. I can't recommend you do anything else.
This movie will feel very familiar to those who have watched the original series. Some designs do change, but the overall script is pretty much the same. All the conspiracy parts have been laid out pretty clearly this time so there are not as many puzzling elements as in the original, and old fans may understand a few things they could have missed. The characters are as interesting as they have ever been, but the condensed story may not give enough time to develop them properly for newcomers. So this movie is agreat upgrade for Evangelion. It is technically bluffing and packed with action, but it probably doesn't include as much cult material as the original work and may appear pretty conventional now that so many other animes have been borrowing themes from the 20th century classic.
Very interesting story and amazing battles. I enjoyed it even more than the first movie. It is a must-watch anime movie for sci-fi and mecha fans.
