Billy Elliot

4 stars out of a maximum of 5

Having originally seen the film upon its release many years ago I wanted to rewatch it after having seen the West End musical recently. The film is extremely well acted, by the main cast, with a special mention going to the performance of Jamie Bell as Billy Elliot. The film is set during the Miners Strke of the 1980's and depicts the real struggles of a mining commuity against the government of the day. Showing the harsh reality of the effects of the closure of the mines upon the real people affected. The film focuses on the growing pains of a boy who rejects the expectations of his peers as he embarks on becoming a dancer and in particularly a ballet dancer and the trials and tribulations that this brings with it. Overall a great film with good casting showcasing some real British acting talent. I would not hesitate to recommend this movie to others.
