Great fun, classic who

4 stars out of a maximum of 5

A fun, lighthearted classic who story, with baker at his best. That's not to say this is his best story. It's nowhere near the caliber of genesis of the daleks, ark in space or pyramids of mars, but as with almost all classic who, wipes the floor with the tat that passes for doctor who in the eyes of the new generations. With a good moral message, a tongue in check feel and first rate performances from the regulars, it beats the frenetic, 2d action flicks of new who hands down. Some of the extras and guest stars act it up a bit, with a few hammy performances, which viewed in the right mindset actually adds to the fun, not-too-serious feel. The slightly fallic look of the 'arm' on the even less convincing than usual alien is the only let down but If you expect bad graphics it won't get in the way of your enjoyment. The dvd itself has plenty of trivia filled extras for the more diehard whovians. A good buy for anyone, and a must for any avid classic who collectors. Only the fact that there are stories of even better quality in the who back catalogue ( like tomb of the cybermen, the daleks, caves of androzani, the silurians, genesis of the daleks... The list goes on) stops it ranking 5 stars. Thoroughly enjoyable.
