Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy is excellent.
This version is a bit disappointing, though having some good moments, one being the MI6 Christmas party - did they really have one? The BBC version I found more consistently dark, menacing and suitable drab. We also got a few clues as to the Spy's motives, which were almost entirely lacking from this version, probaby because in the BBC version we have the meeting between Smiley and the Spy) not to spoil the ending for those who havent seen it). The Spy makes clear that he hates the USA and its dominance over the UK in many areas of life. One can only assume that this would not go down well in Holywood, although it should come as no surprise that a Soviet agent was not a great fan of the US. Odd. However, without the confession and attempt at self-justification, the scene falls rather flat. Gary Oldman plays it very downbeat. In fact he hardly ever says anything at all and looks grim. Not his best a fillm.
Brilliant, Only the english could do something as good as this.
