Acclaimed director Steven Soderbergh gives former MMA fighter Gina Carano her big break, placing her centre stage in his high quality action movie. Carano excels in the brutally realistic fight scenes and while she proves herself a capable actor her role never requires much more than you would expect in the average Van Damme or Segal film. Unlike those two aging icons she is fortunate to be surrounded by some of Hollywood's finest. Ewan Mcgregor, Michael Fassbender and Chaning Tatum all get the chance to test their combat skills against Carano. Michael Douglas and Antonio Banderas make the most of virtual cameo's while Soderbergh adds his usual stylistic flourishes to the whole thing. Carano is unlikely to compete with the Aniston's and Witherspoon's for romantic comedy roles; but she'll be breathing down the necks of Jolie and Rodriguez when it comes to those that require a tough leading lady.
