The final frontier?

4 stars out of a maximum of 5

No this shouldn't be the 'final frontier' of a 3rd person action shooter! This game was loads of fun in coop! Single player was fine... if you enjoy dumb A.I partners but the game deserves a sequel!

This game is a huge disappointment with jerky graphics, boring gameplay and dumb A.I.This game sucks big time and isn't worth the money in my opinion.

Star Trek

I love Star Trek, really I do. We get Kirk and Spock, Gorns (redesigned into generic lizards with laser guns), space battles and adventure. The story is fun, with lots of great dialog between the stoic Spock and the charmer Kirk. I'm amazed they gave him command of the Enterprise as he'd be too busy working his charms on the female crew members. Scotty and Mccoy gives us some great lines that ape back to the "I'm a Doctor not a..." and "If I give her any more she'll blow" type lines. It expands on the destruction of Vulcan and the establishment of New Vulcan, but the Gorn are trying to scupper the plans due to their discovery of wormholes that allow them to destroy civilizations one planet at a time. Between the adventure and the fun story which takes place before the new film, it's a shame it's been turned into a generic shooter. There are elements of space battles and wandering around the outside of space stations and ships with mind bending gravity and changes in perspective, but a lot of it wanders from one room to the next pressing buttons, even the dialogue jokes at the having to start the machines "manually". But then even Halo 4 did that, and I love it. There is a newer element with the whole game played through with co-op mode, and you could play the game through twice, once as Kirk and once as Spock if you have no local friends, adding play value. You can join an online version of the game in co-op mode and play with complete strangers as Kirk or Spock, but there is no true multi-player mode which would have been fun. If you like Trek, it's worth playing just for the story. It could have been better, but it could definitely have been worse.

STAR TREK

3 stars out of a maximum of 5

Overall, STAR TREK is a good game for anyone interested in the franchise, as well as those who are interested in co-op games. The game is set between the first JJ Abrams film and the new film, Into Darkness, meaning that the game features a brand new storyline. The controls are pretty easy to master, though certain things don't always work quite the way you would like (getting the tricorder to work, or interact with objects can be tricky). While the game is let down somewhat by these issues, there are still a lot of areas to explore (useful for completing the research data). Another feature that is included is the ability to upgrade weapons to use less energy or be more accurate. While some may say it is more geared up for Star Trek fans, any sort of background knowledge is not really required to play.
