Once again, the restoration team have done a fantastic job of restoring the film quality of Doctor Who: The Krotons. This classic Doctor Who story has been remasterd to almost better than it's initial transmission. Although the Krotons is not one of the best stories going, it is one of the few surviving Patrick Troughton serials and is worth it for that alone. I have always had fond memories of it from when it was re-screened back in the 80's as part of the Five Faces of Doctor Who season on BBC2.
Once again the Doctor Who restoration team, have worked their magic, and brought back to life an ancient film recording from the golden age of Doctor Who. And what a story to release! The plot which was very exciting for an 8 year old and still appeals today, tells the story of the doctor (This time played by Patrick Troughton) and his 2 companions Jamie and Zoe landing on a desolate planet just as a young man and woman are given the "honour" of joining the Krotons for having scored highly on their learning machines. All of the extras will interest fans of the show and maybe others. If you are a fan of the good Doctor or just enjoy retro shows from the 1960's, I'm sure you won't be disappointed with this release. In many ways Patrick Troughton (my favourite doctor) reminds me of the latest incarnation, Matt Smith. If you haven't seen any "classic" Who, why not give this story a try, see how it compares to "new" Who. I think you may be pleasantly surprised!
