Great Blu-Ray

OK let us get one thing out of the way first.... this film is not for everyone. Many would even consider it utter garbage. For those of you unaware of the Cannon Group's film's these guys are basically the kings of B-Movie trashy film (I mean the plot of this one is about Space Vampires that turn victims into zombies by draining their 'Life Force'). The thing is though.... I love it. I love the ridiculous concept, I love the trashy script and dodgy effects, plus the score by Henry Mancini is just sublime (no seriously). So. For those of you who know the film....now the Blu-Ray. Amazing double-sided cover-art - one side orginal the other a nice new design. Two versions of the film, great special features (haven't got through half of them yet) Overall extremely happy.

Tobe Hoopers "Alien"

Tobe Hoopers Lifeforce has finally come into its own and become a classic,Arrow Video have done this release the justice it finally desreves, the transfer is exellent with two different versions of the film, the international and theatrical releases to be viewed, the theatrical release is in itself quite different right from the beginning however the iternaional version is the one to watch with the manificent opening theme score by Henry Mancini booming around your surround sound stage in 5.1 D.T.S Master Audio, you also get the option of Dolby Surround 2.0 if thats what you might prefer. Arrow have also included a vast amount of extras with the release most of which come from Shout Factory including two exellent interviews with both Mathilda May and Steve Railsback,a making of Lifeforce and in depth interviews with Tobe Hooper. When being made Lifeforce was filmed on a grand scale with a no holds barred attitude in that anything goes and it certainly does once the movie begins, also this is pre C.G.I so all the practical effects are breathtaking. I would recommend this addition to your bluray collection of film classics,it reminds us of how great and grand movies used to be made before the coming of the C.G.I age Thanks to Zavvi for super fast delivery,5 days from England to New Zealand, cant get any better than that

The Movie that has it all: space creatures, zombies and full frontal nudity!

Lifeforce is amongst my very favorite 1980´s SciFi flics! What an bold endeavor that movie was in 1985 one could only imagine. The infamous producer duo Menachem Golan and Yoram Globus, well known for b-action movies such as Missing In Action or the Death Wish -sequels were very ambitiously aiming for an big budget, big production value Science Fiction film. They raised more than 20 million dollars went to Britain hired the best experts the British film industry has to offer (most people like director of photography Alan Hume came from to James Bond films!) and hired the Texas Chainsaw director Tobe Hooper and great a many Shakespear actors, Patrick Steward amongst them. The resulting film however looks more like a very classy Roger Corman Alien- spawn!I really mean that to be an compliment! On it`s first theatrical release Lifeforce was a box office failure, but so were cherished genre classics such as The Thing or Blade Runner! Lifeforce consists of different elements that seems not to match. The first part shows how the crew of the space shuttle Churchill encounter an obscure alien vessel within the halo of Haleys comet. These scenes bear great resemblance to Ridley Scott`s great classic. The other parts of the film that took place on earth (mostly London!) a very reminiscent in atmosphere of the Hammer films classic Quatermass And The Pit.Also there is some confusion of the space creatures probably to massive screenplay changes.Since the monsters are supposed to be space vampires they are first shown to be bat like creatures that can take human form, especially in the (mostly nude!) shape of the female leader (the intoxicating beauty Mathilda May!).That creatures human victims look and act exactly like George Romero -style Zombies with the exception that they do not feed on human flesh but their lifeforce (hence the titel) otherwise they explode to dust, which makes the vampires after all, well sort of! Arrow films outstanding edition contains both the international release and the theatrical version in 1080 p HD solution and has lots of special features such as trailers, artwork and interviews. A personal note, when my code- a bluray player was sucked of its lifeforce i was forced to buy Lifeforce all over again, but i did not regret it since the UK release is the best edition of this movie in the world since the US disc features only the international version in HD and has less bonus material!Another plus is that the cover sleeve could be reversed and contains that comic book style art work which i personally like to a more traditional movie poster version.

Very odd sci-fi 80's flick

This is a very strange film - for it's time it had a huge budget for special effects, using some of the people from the Star Wars films. The story however is pure b-movie but it is entertaining. More interesting is the extra features which detail the making of the film and reasons for it's commercial failure. The picture quality is fantastic and presentation of the Blu Ray top notch, with 2 discs (for 2 different cuts of the film) and a behind the scenes booklet inside the case. Like most Arrow releases this movie has had a lot of care and attention put into the product and fans of this cult sci-fi oddity will lap it up.
