At a Tibetan retreat in the English countryside, a group of men are using ancient meditation rituals to tap into a mysterious alien power. They unwittingly create a bridgehead between Earth and Metebelis 3, a planet where the ‘Two Legs’ are oppressed by giant spiders. The creatures are desperate to recover the blue jewel that the Doctor gave to Jo Grant as a wedding gift.

Doctor Who: Planet of the Spiders
Love a bit of older Doctor Who, with the adventures that they used to have, haven't seen all the older adventures with the likes of Jon Pertwee and Elizabeth Sladen.

Doctor Who Planet of the Spiders
The finale in the Pertwee era brings to a close the 3rd Doctor's tenure. Originally this was due to be a Holmes/Moriarty type face-off but the sad death of Roger Delgardo in 1973 meant that the idea of the Master making an appearance in the final Pertwee story was shelved. Nevertheless, all the ingredients of the Pertwee era are there,UNIT,the Brigadier etc. Not a bad story to bow out with with usual Barry Letts production touches, a juxaposition of familarity and uneasiness as the Doctor initially investigates funny goings on at a Tibetan retreat, which leads him returning to Metebelis 3, where he obtained the blue crystal in the Green Death in the previous series finale.
