The London and North Eastern Railway (The L.N.E.R.) was the major railway serving the Eastern area of Great Britain, with its lines covering East Anglia, Yorkshire, Northumberland and the Scottish coast through to Aberdeen. Filmed over many years, this majestic legacy demonstrates the fascination of steam power and allows us to enjoy again Steam in Britain on L.N.E.R. Lines. The London, Midland and Scottish Railway (The L.M.S.) was the largest of the four railway companies formed in 1923. Its territory stretched from Wick in the North to Bournemouth in the South. Its legacy of steam locomotives is one of the finest and many of them still run today, having been lovingly restored. Observed over the last decade this DVD records the majesty of live L.M.S. steam. The Southern Railway was the smallest of the four railway companies formed in 1923. However it carried the largest passenger traffic of all with its enormous suburban system, which was rapidly electrified. By contrast its rural branch lines, which proliferated all along the South coast of England were worked by a wide variety of steam locomotives right up to the end of main line steam. The steam railways of the South East have left us as their legacy one of the richest veins of preserved steam in Great Britain today. This DVD filmed over the last decade, captures this variety, from heavy express locomotives to small shunting engines including many notable visitors to the area. The North and East Midlands area of Great Britain has a proud industrial history, much of which is bound up in the history of the railways of the country. Situated in the heart of the North and East Midlands is one of the country s greatest coalfields, the very lifeblood of the steam railway. The measure of their success can be seen in this programme, which records the splendour of Steam in Britain in the North & East Midlands The Great Western Railway s publicity machine was on of the most effective railway promotional organisations ever. Long after the GWR had ceased to exist it continued its pull on the imagination of both enthusiast and general traveller alike. Using footage selected from ten years of dedicated observation, this DVD takes you on such a journey, to savour Steam in Britain on GWR Lines.
