Set in New York during the summer of 1994, THE WACKNESS tells the story of Luke (Josh Peck), a pot-peddling teen with a self confidence problem and a list of clients that include his therapist, Dr Squires (Ben Kingsley), who in turn, is struggling with something of a mid-life crisis and a younger wife (Famke Janssen) who is slipping away from him. The pair form an unlikely alliance, one that is spurred-on by a mutual desire to get laid. The mismatched duo embarks upon a journey that takes in much of the sprawling metropolis and its colourful inhabitants which inadvertently leads them both on the road of self-discovery. Fresh from the success of his subversive indie horror, ALL THE BOYS LOVE MANDY LANE, Director Jonathan Levine perfectly encapsulates the New York of the mid-90s; a time when the city, after the appointment of Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, was cleaning up its act. Critically-acclaimed at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival, THE WACKNESS is the embodiment of all the ingredients of what makes independent cinema so great.
