Avengers Sequel Film

Following the release of the first Avengers film in 2012, the MCU was truly in full swing. After years of building up their heroes - starting with 2008’s Iron Man, starring Robert Downey Jr. - Kevin Feige (the president of Marvel Studios) had accomplished his grand vision of forming a cohesive comic book film universe.

Returning director Joss Whedon had a monumental job of topping his original success. And in 2015, he released the second film in the series, Avengers: Age of Ultron.

The film featured the returning heroes Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), and Captain America (Chris Evans). However, it also introduced three new faces: Scarlett Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), and Vision (Paul Bettany).

Joining together once again, the Avengers need to combat a new threat forged by their own hubris. Through the collective genius of Tony Stark and Bruce Banner, the entity known as Ultron is born. Intended as a peace-keeping program, Ultron proves unstable and sees humanity as the greatest threat to the world. As such, the heroes must band together to put an end to this genocidal AI.

From the ashes of Avengers: Age of Ultron, the future of the MCU was paved in stone. Consequences derived from their exploits in Sokovia would shape the world’s perspective on superheroes for years to come – forming the basis for the plot of Captain America: Civil War.
