Produced by filmmaker Edgar Wright (Shaun Of The Dead, Hot Fuzz, Scott Pilgrim Vs The World), Attack The Block is the directorial debut of comedian and broadcaster Joe Cornish. A contemporary Sci-Fi, Horror, Action, Comedy with an old school flavour, it’s both frighteningly horrific and brilliantly hilarious. Bonfire night, South London: Sam (Jodie Whittaker – (St Trinian’s, Venus), a trainee nurse, is making her way home when she’s accosted by a gang of hooded teenage thugs. That is until a huge, flaming meteorite crash-lands into a nearby car. Sam makes her escape while the gang find themselves confronted by a rabid, ravenous extra-terrestrial with a craving for human flesh. Having killed the creature they soon realise that this is only the beginning. There are other aliens invading the earth and they’re bigger, stronger and hungrier. Their only chance of survival is to take refuge within the concrete walls of their housing estate block. Teaming up with their initial victim Sam and local dealer Ron (Nick Frost – Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz), the neighbourhood’s biggest threat could be the block’s only hope. Its inner city versus outer space and it’s about to get nasty.

Attack the Block is the funniest film I have seen for a long time, it reminded me so much of monster squad and super 8 but better. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good comedy horror or to fans of films like Shaun of the Dead. Hope they do a sequel.
