From Academy Award winning Director Martin Scorsese comes Hugo, a story of a young orphan living in Paris who seeks to unlock a transforming secret (an automaton) that has been left to him by his late father.

Determined to unlock the secret, Hugo (Asa Butterfield - The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, The Wolfman) sets off on a quest to find the heart shaped key needed to connect to the automaton, and on his journey meets Isabelle (Chloe Grace Moretz), god-daughter of a local toy shop owner, who aids him with his search for the answer to the mystery.

Hugo’s mystical travels see him getting caught up in a magical adventure that threatens to put all of his secrets in jeopardy. With an imaginative script and exceptional effects, it’s no wonder why this fantastic piece of filmmaking has been nominated for 11 Oscars. – Trevor Pratt

Better than I expected

4 stars out of a maximum of 5

I had seen several reviews of Hugo and I got the impression it was a case of love it or hate it. I was really expecting to hate it but it was cheap so I bought it. The family sat down for a bit over 2 hours that it takes and everyone from 10 to 40 years old thought it was pretty good. I'm not sure if I would bother to watch it again but the time certainly wasn't wasted. It has a fairly gently pace with a happy ending and good 3D effects throughout. There are fantasy elements but nothing that stops the story making sense. It's definitely worth the price of a pizza!

Hugo 3D is a must-have classic by Martin Scorsese. 3D-2D option and behind the scenes extras were pretty good. A double play would also be fine, but it's still a good piece for a film collection.

Great 3D effects, but I found the film very slow and at times, boring.

not a kid's film

I bought this thinking it'd be great for my kids (3yo and under). but there are some themes which wouldn't be suitable for them (e.g. homeless kids being arrested and taken off to orphanages). otherwise, an okay movie. a bit slow but a nice storyline.

I only started watching this film last night as the football has been on most nights and I couldn't sleep. Wow, the picture is stunning, snowflakes coming at me from the screen. The film looks to be a great one too, I'm only 40 minutes in and can't wait to watch the rest.

Hugo 3D is a thoroughly enjoyable film for the whole family and one that will not disappoint. The acting is very good and so is the story line. So, sit back with the family, get out the popcorn, the soft drink, and enjoy an evening's entertainment.
