    Description

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy tells the story of Frodo Baggins (Elijah Wood), a hobbit who battles against the Dark Lord Sauron to save his world, Middle-earth, from the grip of evil. In the films, Frodo and his fellowship of friends and allies embark on a desperate journey to rid Middle-earth of the source of Sauron's greatest strength, the One Ring - a ring that has the power to enslave the inhabitants of Middle-earth. The trilogy tells tales of extraordinary adventures across the treacherous landscape of Middle-earth and reveals how the power of friendship, love and courage can hold the forces of darkness at bay. Beside Wood, the films star Ian McKellen, Liv Tyler, Viggo Mortensen, Sean Astin, Cate Blanchett, John Rhys-Davies, Billy Boyd, Dominic Monaghan, Orlando Bloom, Christopher Lee, Hugo Weaving, featuring Sean Bean, and Ian Holm, with Andy Serkis as Gollum. The films also star Marton Csokas, Craig Parker and Lawrence Makaoare.

In this first part of the Trilogy, the young hobbit Frodo Baggins inherits a ring; but this ring is no mere trinket. It is the One Ring, an instrument of absolute power that could allow Sauron, the dark Lord of Mordor, to rule Middle-earth and enslave its peoples. Frodo, together with a Fellowship that includes his loyal hobbit friends, humans, a wizard, a dwarf and an elf, must take the One Ring across Middle-earth to Mount Doom, where it first was forged, and destroy it forever. Such a journey means venturing deep into territory manned by Sauron, where he is amassing his army of Orcs. And it is not only external evils that the Fellowship must combat, but also internal dissension and the corrupting influence of the One Ring itself. The course of future history is entwined with the fate of the Fellowship. The film won four Oscars for Best Visual Effects, Cinematography, Makeup and Original Score.

    Quantity + Quality

The Lord of the Rings trilogy is one of the greatest sets of trilogies out there to own, right next to Back to the Future and Star Wars 4-6. However, to buy the trilogy on Blu-ray with special features and documentaries spread over 3 discs and to pay so little for it is a miracle.

    Must have for LOTR fans

I had watched all the 3 movies before and the firms themselves have been reviewed several times over by people who are more eloquent than I could hope to be. this purchase was to add the movies to my collection. Suffices to say that I loved these movies and the deal from Zavvi just made it unmissable.

Lord of the Rings Box Set

The films arrived and were as described. Have only watched 'The Fellowship of the Ring' and have to say that the HD quality isn't exceptional (and I have a very good TV and Blu-ray player.) But it is still superior to SD. Did take a whole week to deliver though....

The Lord of the Rings finally on blu-ray!!!

I've just bought this Lord of the Rings blu-ray collection, and I was very excited to get it. Know, that I finally have it I have to say, that it is truly wonderful. The outer box case is very hard, and sturdy, and looks very good on the shelves. Inside it there's three individual cases, all containing the main movie on a Blu-ray, and a bonus DVD with special features. I've already tried all three movies, and the video transfers are wonderful, the best among them is the picture of the Return of the King, the third movie, but all movies look and sound very good on the ultimate format. The special features are very interesting, although not as expanded, and lush, as the special features of the extended versions, but I still find them very interesting. So, ultimately, I can't recommend this boxset enough both for the lovers of Blu-ray, and for the fans of the trilogy.

    Shame on you, New Line

I actually find it incredibly insulting that the studio put out the Theatrical Versions on Blu-Ray instead of the Extended Versions.. Even a simultaneous release wouldn't have been so bad, but no.. We're expected to shell out twice if we want a Blu-Ray copy for the interim.. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of the Trilogy, but buying it 4 times over? I really don't think so.. Aside from that, the Blu-Ray transfers get progressively better from film to film, with ROTK being a superb and beautiful transfer that really shows off your player. FOTR is a little ropey in places with a fair amount of DNR, but it's certainly passable. All in all, it's an average release of three phenomenal movies.

    YES

The three best films ever made (yep, I said it) look truly marvellous on Blu Ray. They are the reason I bought the machine in the first place, and they have been optimised for the format with real love and affection. This is the only way to watch these flicks. AWESOME
