The Lord of the Rings Trilogy tells the story of Frodo Baggins (Elijah Wood), a hobbit who battles against the Dark Lord Sauron to save his world, Middle-earth, from the grip of evil. In the films, Frodo and his fellowship of friends and allies embark on a desperate journey to rid Middle-earth of the source of Sauron's greatest strength, the One Ring - a ring that has the power to enslave the inhabitants of Middle-earth. The trilogy tells tales of extraordinary adventures across the treacherous landscape of Middle-earth and reveals how the power of friendship, love and courage can hold the forces of darkness at bay. Beside Wood, the films star Ian McKellen, Liv Tyler, Viggo Mortensen, Sean Astin, Cate Blanchett, John Rhys-Davies, Billy Boyd, Dominic Monaghan, Orlando Bloom, Christopher Lee, Hugo Weaving, featuring Sean Bean, and Ian Holm, with Andy Serkis as Gollum. The films also star Marton Csokas, Craig Parker and Lawrence Makaoare.
In this first part of the Trilogy, the young hobbit Frodo Baggins inherits a ring; but this ring is no mere trinket. It is the One Ring, an instrument of absolute power that could allow Sauron, the dark Lord of Mordor, to rule Middle-earth and enslave its peoples. Frodo, together with a Fellowship that includes his loyal hobbit friends, humans, a wizard, a dwarf and an elf, must take the One Ring across Middle-earth to Mount Doom, where it first was forged, and destroy it forever. Such a journey means venturing deep into territory manned by Sauron, where he is amassing his army of Orcs. And it is not only external evils that the Fellowship must combat, but also internal dissension and the corrupting influence of the One Ring itself. The course of future history is entwined with the fate of the Fellowship. The film won four Oscars for Best Visual Effects, Cinematography, Makeup and Original Score.

The Lord of the Rings Box Set is a great Blu-ray box set at a really good price. All three movies came in separate plastic boxes for safe keeping. The trilogy allows you to watch the movies one after another, with great picture and sound quality. Even though these movies are now getting a bit old, as collectable classics they are well worth the money.
Amazing films and great price.
Lord of the Rings Box Set is great value, containing the complete theatrical versions of the Lord of the Rings. Excellent sound and vision, as you'd expect from Blu-ray. Fast service from Zavvi at an excellent price. Recommended.
The Lord of the Rings Box Set is simply fantastic and I would highly recommend it to anyone.
The Lord of the Rings Box Set is excellent value for money. It's brilliant.
Lord of the Rings Box Set is a great trilogy, and a fantastic price!
This Lord of the Rings Box Set is excellent value for money.
Amazing value for a top quality Blu-ray box set of 3 classic movies. I am very happy with this purchase.Great for Tolkien fans!
Awesome service, everything was perfect besides the box being damaged on delivery but that will be down to the royal mail no doubt.
What more could you ask for? Lord of the Rings Box Set is a great set of films for a great price.
Great little package with all the Blu-ray discs in one box. If you like Lord of the Rings then this is the box set to grab at a bargain price.
This is such an awesome deal, could not go past is once i saw how cheap it was. For such a cheap price you get this awesome box set in amazing quality, video and audio are outstanding! Also shipping was excellent, very quick for such a big journey to Australia! This is a must buy!
Don't waste your money on director's cut, no point, theres still a disk full of extras for each movie, great quality blue ray as always, just wanted to refammilrise myself with the films before the prequels come out at the end of the year.
This Lord of the Rings Box Set is an excellent box set and the purchase price was unbelievable value. Good delivery time as well. Will use Zavvi again.
The Lord of the Rings films are all fantastic. Good release from EiV.
All the Lord of the Rings films are absolutely amazing. Thoroughly recommended.
Forget about the studio's attempt at cashing in on these great films with Directors Cuts and Extended Theatrical Versions. This Lord of the Rings boxset includes all the original and best versions. If they were meant to be anything but these versions originally Peter Jackson would have edited to match. Don't get suckered in. Theres still three discs of extras to watch if you're into that stuff, one for each film.
The Lord of the Rings trilogy is one of the greatest sets of trilogies out there to own, right next to Back to the Future and Star Wars 4-6. However, to buy the trilogy on Blu-ray with special features and documentaries spread over 3 discs and to pay so little for it is a miracle.
I had watched all the 3 movies before and the firms themselves have been reviewed several times over by people who are more eloquent than I could hope to be. this purchase was to add the movies to my collection. Suffices to say that I loved these movies and the deal from Zavvi just made it unmissable.
Its a complete collection for you lord of the ring's addicts. It has all you want to know about the making of and the characters. I need to order the extended versions now.
I would recommend everyone to buy this boxset. It is absolutely stunning to see these breathtaking films in high definition. All your favourite characters spring to life. Box looks very nice and fits well between my other blurays. 5/5
I can't believe these are 10 years old now! Nothing in the last 10 years compares
The films arrived and were as described. Have only watched 'The Fellowship of the Ring' and have to say that the HD quality isn't exceptional (and I have a very good TV and Blu-ray player.) But it is still superior to SD. Did take a whole week to deliver though....
Amazing value for the Lord Of The Rings boxset. I can't believe what a difference blu ray makes!
This is an epic collection. Probably unsurpassed and one for everyone's collection.
Fantastic picture quality. All in all outstanding.
Great movies! Has a fantastic combination of action, story-line and rich plot. And with roughly 9 hours of viewing, its a good way to chill out on a day you want to do nothing.
I haven't actually watched these yet but i'm very pleased with how they look. Each Bluray comes in it's own case, with both discs inside. So it's 3 Bluray cases inside a box. The Bluray cover on the box was literally stuck on by a tiny spot of something, so my boyfriend wiggled it off and it looks much better now. Very attractive box. So glad i brought these finally. Especially for £13.95 - bargain!
Very good, the picture quality is amazing! So happy that I bought this product in blu-ray instead of the DVD version!
Blu-Ray really brings the best out of this series of movies., although the first one lacks sharpness in places. I do have an 8 foot screen to watch it on though so if you're watching on a TV I would suggest this would not be a problem. I don't think it is the quality of the blu-ray that is to blame, but more the camera person on occasions has not got the focusing spot on. As always with blu-ray, the colour depth and accuaracy is stunning, together with the window rattling sound (sorry neighbours!). I'm not a one for watching bonus material so I am not reviewing the 3 bonus discs. A lot of people say "good value for the price" for many boxsets of many genres, but I'd pay more for this particular boxset given the shear legnth of movies along, never mind all the extras.
I've just bought this Lord of the Rings blu-ray collection, and I was very excited to get it. Know, that I finally have it I have to say, that it is truly wonderful. The outer box case is very hard, and sturdy, and looks very good on the shelves. Inside it there's three individual cases, all containing the main movie on a Blu-ray, and a bonus DVD with special features. I've already tried all three movies, and the video transfers are wonderful, the best among them is the picture of the Return of the King, the third movie, but all movies look and sound very good on the ultimate format. The special features are very interesting, although not as expanded, and lush, as the special features of the extended versions, but I still find them very interesting. So, ultimately, I can't recommend this boxset enough both for the lovers of Blu-ray, and for the fans of the trilogy.
As soon as I received the pack, took it out and pushed the Fellowship of the Ring inside my PS3, and the wait for it was finally over. As the movie begins with history and the shire, the quality of bluray comes into view. With the green and the nature all around the shire showing a real life perception, the bluray shows us the real meaning of it. The dark second film Two Towers, the visual aspects of the movie is portrayed via deep sense of colors. With a solid transfer depicting visual effects as it is in real life the disc was fantastic. And the third movie, The Return of the Ring is the best movie out of them all. The one to rule them all, the one to beat them all. With a great detail on characters and the interactions with the nature, this disc is great and one of the best. With great audio and video the trilogy stand out as one of the greatest bluray movies ever. With only the sad nod towards not having the extended versions, the Lord of the Rings trilogy Bluray is awesome and one of the best.
Excellent edition!! It's Theatrical Edition, no extended... It's the perfect trilogy with 5.1 sound and excellent video quality! It's a great offer to get on of the most important films in the history of the cinema!
Hello, Are the French subtitles available on this DVD?
I actually find it incredibly insulting that the studio put out the Theatrical Versions on Blu-Ray instead of the Extended Versions.. Even a simultaneous release wouldn't have been so bad, but no.. We're expected to shell out twice if we want a Blu-Ray copy for the interim.. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of the Trilogy, but buying it 4 times over? I really don't think so.. Aside from that, the Blu-Ray transfers get progressively better from film to film, with ROTK being a superb and beautiful transfer that really shows off your player. FOTR is a little ropey in places with a fair amount of DNR, but it's certainly passable. All in all, it's an average release of three phenomenal movies.
The three best films ever made (yep, I said it) look truly marvellous on Blu Ray. They are the reason I bought the machine in the first place, and they have been optimised for the format with real love and affection. This is the only way to watch these flicks. AWESOME
Are the Lord of the Rings films worth buying simply for the opportunity to watch them in high definition? The mitigating factor, primarily, is whether you prefer the theatrical cuts or the Extended Editions, or in my particular case, the theatrical version of Fellowship but the Extended versions of Two Towers and Return of the King -- a preference which makes straightforward "set" purchases impossible. The problem, however, is that it's hard to be discouraging of this release since it is obviously intended to be a preamble, an aperitif, for those expanded, extended, encyclopedic version that will no doubt be released, and the last thing that fans want is to scare Warner Home Video off of prioritizing those releases. But the bottom line is, who are we kidding? Is it even remotely possible that poor sales of this set will result in WHV pulling the release of the Extended Editions? They are, after all, planning to make two more of these movies, predicated almost exclusively on the critical and commercial success of the Rings trilogy. In which case, peruse the details of my descriptions of the video and audio quality and determine for yourself if this is a must-have set for your burgeoning blu-ray collection. Because if it's true that Lord of the Rings as a whole was the most important provider of information about moviemaking, then you can decide for yourself how much more you need to know, or maybe how many more times you need to know the exact same thing.
It has been a while since the last Lord of the Rings came in theaters and knocked people down with a fantastic story, amazing pictues and wonderful soundeffects and specialeffects. A while later it came out on dvd and likewise a trilogy with all three excellent movies. Now you can get it on blu-ray!! What earlier was an amazing movie collection, is now even more stunning with optimized sound and pictures. If you felt like you were in some way a part of Frodo Baggins journeyt before, you are now going to feel like you ARE Frodo Baggins. Buy this, if you want a fantastic and beatiful story in super quality. Dont let it slip away!
