Sherlock - Series 2

Being a firm fan of the traditional type Sherlock Holmes, Basil Rathbone and Jeremy Brett, it took a lot to convince me that there was a proper modern take on the genre. Moffatt and Gattis have surpassed themselves in writing a 21st Century classic. Cracking performances from the two main leads. Excellent supporting cast all round. Brought to vivid life in this superb blu-ray HD release.

A good modern series

This series is a good modern series of Sherlock that I think works quite well, some fans of the traditional Sherlock setting may not like the change. This show is far better written than most crime dramas on TV.

Sherlock Series 2

Absolutely brilliant, just as good as the first series. As someone who has read the books and seen the series starring Jeremy Brett, I find it fascinating how they have kept true to the original stories while updating it to our modern world. Can't wait for Series 3.

Excellent!

Another three 90 minute episodes of this brilliant contemporary reimagining of classic Sherlock Holmes stories. Brilliantly written and acted, another triumph from BBC Wales. Illuminating commentaries on the first two episodes add to the enjoyment and make this a rare programme I can watch over and over. Highly recommended!

Sherlock Holmes on top form

We had to get this on Blu-Ray, despite having seen it on TV only a few weeks ago, as the story is so deep that it bears repeated viewing, with new levels of the story revealed each time. There has been a lot in the press about the last episode, but for those who haven't seen that or the BBC airing yet, it's worth taking the time to see what all the fuss has been about.

Sherlock - Series 2

Sherlock just gets better and better as the series continues. This ingenious adaptation of the original Arthur Conan Doyle stories will keep you enthralled and the acting of Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch is developing into a partnership that rivals the days of Jeremy Brett and Edward Hardcastle not to mention Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law. High drama combined with humour will leave you longing for more. If you haven't got Series 1 already then buy it as well as this - you won't be disappointed!

Sherlock - Series 2

When some viewers complained about the paucity of episodes in this series, Steven Moffat, the co-creator and writer of the first instalment, said that he was, in effect, making three films, three films fit for the cinema. I think he succeeded admirably. Of the three, I think the first is the best, but only just beating out the third one. Scandal in Belgravia is quite simply dazzling. Directing, acting, dialogue, story - all are equally brilliant. I fully expect this 'film' to feature in my top ten films of 2012. It's only January and I have already watched it three times! And if anyone is reading this wondering if the Blu-ray is worth the purchase, I am here to give it the highest recommendation; it's PQ and AQ are every bit as sharp as the wits of its writers!

Sherlock - series 2

Excellent Blu Ray disc, much watched already by husband who is trying to work out how Sherlock faked his death... Sadly delivery was a little longer than I had hoped for, but it was well packed and in great condition when it did arrive.

Sherlock Returns With Style

After the exceptional first season, a gritty, smart reboot of Arthur Conan Doyle's classic legend, fronted by the inspired pairing of newcomer Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman (who won a Best Supporting Actor BAFTA for his portrayal of Dr John Watson), Sherlock Season 2 loses none of the first season's intoxicating flair- although the second episode, The Hounds Of Baskerville, struggles to fill the 90 minutes of it's bridging role (a minor problem Season 1 also suffered from), it is as entertaining and well acted as the rest of the season, which establishes Sherlock as the best show from the BBC in a while. The supporting characters (Mycroft Holmes, Irene Adler, James Moriarty)are as compelling as the now-immortal duo, and the return of Moriarty in The Reichenbach Fall signals the best Sherlock episode so far. The season ends with a memorable and frankly perplexing ending, demonstrating the writers still have ideas for the future of Sherlock. And as long as it remains as slick, funny, tense and generally amazing as Season 2, it's a bright future.
