Madden NFL 11

This Game will be like Marmite to avid followers of the Genre. The new Gameflow system while simpler and designed to attract a new, wider audience might not appeal to the more Hardcore NFL Fans, who might see it as a dumbing down of one the more intruiging parts of the game. Having said that, other alterations that have been made certainly do improve the overall experience, the removing of the sprint stick, that meant once you passed an oppenent in the field of play all you did was press this button and were never caught, is a welcome omission in the aid to realism, as is the addition of the ability to have better control via the right stick of juking, sidestepping, hand off's etc. The AI of both your opponents and your team mates has vastly improved, helping create a more realistic game, and your offensive line actually does what it should, in helping create time to spot plays, while you might still get over-run by a team with a great D Line. That being said, the Gameflow system does occasionally call a crazy play at just the wrong moment, and while probably not noticable to the casual gamer, will drive the NFL Nuts bonkers, and calling audibles at the line is more of a task than in previous years. The graphics as always with the Madden series remain highly polished, and add to the sense of realism, as do the improved cut scenes before and after the game, and the introduction of Gus Johnson in the Commentary box, gives a more interesting addition to play reviews and adds to the gaming experience, even if a lot of the commentary is repetitive with continued play. As you progress the playoff's and Superbowl actually feel like something special this year, with some team specific references and commentary letting you know how important this match is, compared with previous years when these matches felt like any other weekly game. The online play is great and addictive, with the addition of Teamplay a superb new addition from previous years. Overall I feel that this particular edition has been produced more with the mainstream gamer in mind than the Hardcore Fan, and the omission of the 'hour eating' Franchise Mode will be a disappointment to those. However the improvements made make the game another Solid addition to the Franchise and as the hardcore fans will buy it anyway, who can blame EA for wanting to attract a wider audience.
