One of the best games on Xbox

I was pleasantly surprised with how fast Zavvi's delivery was. It took only 2 days from ordering which was brilliant. Not only was Zavvi the cheapest seller on the Internet for this product, they also offered me a discount on my purchase through an email! The item came in perfect condition and had no problems at all. I have had the game for nearly 2 weeks now and I'm still playing it! The game starts off on the game world Pandora where you play as one of four Vault Hunters in their quest for hidden treasures and the illustrious Vault. Each character has their own strengths and special moves which you must utilise if you wish to keep up with this fast paced action. With the artwork being a unique twist of a cartoon style with an adults touch, you feel the need sometimes to look around and admire at how detailed your surroundings are. My only issue with the game is that some of the boss battles are too easy and require little to no strategy to defeat them which is unfortunate as this was the only let down in my eyes. Overall the gameplay is smooth and online is lots of fun especially with friends and with all the dlc and the main full game at this price is a bargain not to be missed! I will definitely be using Zavvi again in the near future as I am incredibly impressed with their improvements in delivery and overall service in the past 12 months.

Great Fun

After completing Borderlands 2 I thought I would give Borderlands a go. So far it has been great fun, you must remember it is a "classic game" now, when you compare it to more recent games, like Borderlands 2, however I think it is well worth the money, and very entertaining.

Hours Of Fun

The first game of the current generation to employ cartoon like graphics, with great success. This is an absolutely massive game an will keep you entertained for hours, especially with the DLC included (4 additional stories, adding around 10-12 hours of playtime). It is predominantly a first person shooter with an element of RPG where you earn experience points to give your chosen character new abilities. You can play four different character types; Soldier (automatic gun turret), Siren (phase walk), Beserker (rage which involves invulnerability whilst fighting with the enemy), and my favourite the Hunter (bloodwing - a hawk that attacks the enemy at your command). Each character has its own special ability to help you take down enemy hordes. Your quest is to discover the mysterious Vault and all its riches. Cash is earned by selling weapons acquired from loot chests or off fallen enemies and from containers in the various levels. The weapon system is unique in that the game can randomly spawn millions of flavour of guns, the best of which have elemental damage (fire, acid, shock, explosive). It's is possible to level your character(s) indefinitely, with achievements for level 50 and 61 (you will need this level for the game's most difficult boss). There are some 1,750 achievement points to be had, some of which will take nerves of steel, the majority of which you will acquire through your first play through. Split screen to player on the same console is supported. You can play 4 character co-op over Xbox live ( Microsoft's server service for online play) with either Friends or complete strangers. This is without doubt one of the best of its kind and if you want a game that will engross you for hours and give you value for money look no further. Once you have lost several hours on this game (for me around 60-70 hrs of play through) you can buy the even better sequel.

Not what I expected...

Although Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition has a nice base and is an innovative game, it gets really boring and repetitive. It's also hard to go on with missions, because even with a rocket launcher you can't kill mobs which are considered medium-difficulty. I think it's a good game and a lot of people will like it but It's just not for me.

Good not great

Borderlands is a good game with fun, exciting gameplay but there's a serious lack of emphasis on story and the characters are all empty vessels. Sure it's fun to go around the wasteland shooting the countless guns at various creatures and bandits, but there really feels like a lack of direction or motivation to do so. Gameplay: 8/10 (Good balance to weapons and driving) Visuals: 6/10 (Interesting art style but overall very bland) Fun: 9/10 (Lots of various, entertaining things to do) Story: 1/10 (Virtually non-existent)

Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition

Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition is an amazing game and it's great value! It has countless hours of possible game play and is very much so one of the few games that justifies its price in terms of content. It blends the best of FPS and RPG elements into one exciting package!

Amazing Shooter/RPG

Wow, been wanting to play this game for some time and finally took the plunge with the Game of the Year edition. I've not been disappointed. 23 hours in and I've still not completed the main game, let alone touched any of the DLC packs included. The game play is awesome, graphics great and the RPG levelling and quest system is second to none in it's class. This has to be one of the best games on the Xbox so far.

One Of The Most Solid FPS' In Years

Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition is one of the most solidly constructed games I have played in recent times. Borderlands, to a degree, plays like a more surreal and violent take on the Fallout franchise. The setting is post-apocalyptic, the humour comes thick and fast, and there has been an incredible amount of thought put into things like brands, weaponry, supporting characters and the backstory as a whole. Gameplay is relatively simple. The game is a shooter, but the added depth comes with the introduction of some heavy RPG-style elements. It is evident, however, that the game is designed for a multiplayer experience, but that does not mean the game is not fun for a solo experience. I can't recommend it enough. Get it, get hooked, and have the most fun you will have had in years with an FPS.

Never buying from Zavvi again...

I bought this game due to it being cheap and the second one coming out. Myself and my friend bought the game and we enjoy it until we get a bit bored of running around from one side of the map to the other killing things. People have told me it was like Fallout, when in fact I can only see two things that make it like fallout 1. waste land and 2. vault other than that the games are not the same in any way.

Borderlands Game Of The Year Edition.

The Game Of the Year Edition of Borderlands is well worth the money, it's everything you want out of a first person shooter. The game always makes you want to come back and play and the fact that there is co-op campaign also adds to it. The enemies get harder, you want that though so it's not so easy, and the downloadable content adds even more to the game. Brilliant purchase.

The great feature in this Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition is the inclusion of RPG elements. It's almost a new vision of shooter games. Futhermore it's a really long game with 4 adds-on for a great price. I think it is well worth owning.

The only version to own

Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition is a great game, it's fun for you and all your friends with up to 4 player co-op. The GOTY edition like all others is the original game with all the add-on packs, which are supplied on a 2nd disc that you just need to install. There's no need to type in codes thankfully. It's an excellent price from Zavvi.

Great Game with some problems

Borderlands is a mix of many video game genres which makes it hectic, crazy and most of all fun. First some problems, some people I know who have owned or seen the game do not like the cartoon graphics and I suggest that you watch some game play before buying to make sure you will be able to enjoy the scenery as this style is not for everyone. Also there are a few bugs I have come across, such as getting stuck (literally) in certain places and having to either kill yourself to get to the last checkpoint or reloading a save. There are also the usual bugs found in most RPG's - enemies getting stuck in walls, freezing (not as much as fallout and skyrim though) etc.... However all of these are to be expected in most games of its scale and do not hinder game play too much. To the good points - There are lots of guns, lots and lots of guns. Running around collecting more, selling old ones and upgrading new ones occurs frequently. The character you choose also effects gun skill, the hunter for example likes snipers while the soldier likes combat rifles and by using certain classes of guns you rank up your proficiency in that class increasing damage and accuracy. Also, the game play is great, a mix of FPS action while all the time being an open world RPG and scavenge based loot collector game (yeah I really meant many genres) but it all fits together so well and had not been seen before the game came out which makes it so different from generic shooters. Thirdly, the co-op game play is brilliant, playing with friends, completing quests and having fun is amazing, it feels rewarding and is fun for as long as the game is, (which is very long.) With all side quests this game can take over a day in play time easily and you may want to keep going with the four add ons included in this edition, 2 of them are very fun and the other 2 are ok and worth playing but not as memorable. I don't like to end reviews talking about the start of the game however you always save the best for last. The intro is amazing, the song and introduction to the four main characters are brilliant and you want to watch it over and over again, if you watch the introduction then you want to play the game it is that good. I would highly recommend this game for the price at the moment and although it has its flaws they are highly outweighed by good points. Get this before Borderlands 2 comes out in a few months. Remember this game did not win game of the year for nothing!

Real Classic

This game, even though it's a couple of years old is still as good as the games that are being released now. The graphics may seem a bit odd at first but it certainly grows on you. The leveling system makes you want to play more and more to try and level up. The story is different and unique with a HUGE amount of weapon choice. I can't wait for borderlands 2!!!
