A review for the single-player and split-screen portions of the game

At the time of writing this review, the game is selling for €11. My generous rating is heavily influenced by this price. The single player is outdated and ugly to look at compared to today's games. Although oddly enough the lightning effects are quite impressive at times. The game is functional and fun enough, in its own unique way. The Crosscom that allows you to scan ahead with your spy drone and highlight enemies that then show up in a red outline on the screen is wonderful, but is stifled by the poor AI. The worst kind of AI. Ghost Recon at its heart is a stealth game, but as soon as you fire a shot everyone will know where you are. This often makes no sense. When I am 100s of metres away and get a perfect headshot with a sniper rifle, the enemies immediately home in on my position, and losing them is a monumental task. It seems the only way to throw the buggers off is with a smoke grenade. Crawling to a building across the street (and all the time out of the enemies line of sight!) is futile, because in GRAW2 it seems your enemies can see through solid walls -- but not smoke. The split-screen was a humongous disappointment. I can't recommend other Tom Clancy games enough for their marvellous split-screen co-op (Rainbow Six: Vegas and Splinter Cell Chaos Theory/Convictions). But GRAW2 is almost unplayable in this mode, forcing you to use the 1st person view. I remember playing the old Ghost Recon games on the original XBOX, that were entirely first person games, and the coop worked well. But they were different games, here everything is smaller and harder to see when clumsily running about in first person. In this view it is also detrimenta to use the cover gameplay that GRAW2 is all about. It might also be worth mentioning, for anyone expecting Ghost Recon to possess an engaging story; the story and characters (I'm sure intentionally) are laughably bad. For €11 I just about got my money's worth, but if you haven't played Rainbow Six: Vegas, do yourself a favour and pick that up instead.
