A Worthy Effort

Despite some negativity at the time of release ( I think mostly from people who just find it simply impossible to sit and watch a movie that’s over two hours long), this is actually a pretty decent shot at a credible Batman movie. I am not a huge Batman fanboy but, like many other people, I was completely spoiled by Christopher Nolan’s triumphant Dark Knight Trilogy which I feel not only does so much to honour the whole Batman shtick, but also to the movie world in general. So Matt Reeves’ had to make a fairly good crack at it, and he has done a not-bad job. Visually, it’s beautiful in its dystopian vision of Gotham, stylistically, it seems to have taken the best aspects of the Nolan movies and the Arkham games. The story is decent, a very dark rendition of The Riddler’s tail, and Pattinson does a good job of the main character. Colin Farrell’s presence as The Penguin seems a little under-used, considering the enormous physical effort it took to get him looking so un-Colin Farrell! We all know what Farrell can do, but I felt he perhaps took a chunk of De Niro’s Al Capone here. I have to say that I enjoyed it as a stand-alone Batman flick; there are rumours of it being another trilogy. Only time will tell if this is a successful move. But don’t be too apprehensive about watching this, if you’re into the Batman thing - it’s a good evening’s entertainment. The 4K treatment looks fantastic too.

A very enticing movie

The new Batman was very interesting. The dark aesthetic is refreshing and interesting. Visually the movie is very different from the Nolan films and Pattinson manages to capture the soul of an "emo" batman. Have watched the movie twice now and would recommend it to everyone. The packaging is nice, consisting of a bluray case and a paper sleeve. The picture and sound quality are pristine. HDR and Dolby Vision work wonders for dark scenes, which pretty much make the whole movie. Audio mixing is well done, with peeks not being overly loud and conversations were easily understandable. The subtitle and dubing choices are a real bonus too.

Brilliant

Enjoyed this film so much saw twice at cinema and since at home. Robert Patterson is a different kind of Batman he is engaging throughout. The whole film is well casted and enjoyable.
