Summer is coming to an end for another year, the kids are going back to school, and the days are getting longer.
This all means one thing; we’re now back at the time of year where it’s socially acceptable to shut out the miserable wider world and get stuck into a pile of new 4Ks and Blu-rays. We’re heading into autumn with a fantastic selection of blockbusters, remastered classics and cult gems waiting to be rediscovered – as always, release dates are subject to change, but these are all correct at the time of writing.
Here’s your week-by-week release guide for September 2025.
Monday, 1st September

September begins with an eclectic mix of classics coming to 4K; Arrow Video are rereleasing Lost In Space, two Predator sequels (Predator 2 and Predators) are making their ultra high-definition debut ahead of Badlands, and there’s vintage James Stewart in Harvey. Fresh from the cinema, Wes Anderson’s The Phoenician Scheme is also coming to 4K, and like all the meticulously designed from Wes, this is exactly what the format was made for.
As for cult gems, 88 Films are bringing us bonkers early 90s Hong Kong sci-fi horror The Cat, which they promise features some of the most insane practical effects and set pieces ever seen in an alien invasion movie. Other under-the-radar releases include Arrow Video’s Deadstream, a horror satire about an influencer spending a night in a haunted house, the BFI’s rerelease of silent Soviet classic Battleship Potemkin with a new score from the Pet Shop Boys, and the queer romcom Saving Face, which is entering the Criterion Collection.
Finally, two vintage TV boxsets; the second season of The Sweeney, restored for its 50th anniversary, and the five disc Blu-ray boxset of Gerry Anderson’s Space: 1999 Super Space Theatre!
Monday, 8th September

Dads everywhere, rejoice – Master And Commander: Far Side Of The World is coming to 4K, and the new steelbook leads this week’s new releases! It's a big week for cult label releases too, with Arrow Video giving us American Gigolo in 4K and Japanese crime drama Proof of the Man, and 88 Films giving us several gems including a 4K restoration of Stuart Gordon’s From Beyond.
Another early movie from the Hammer Studios – The Man in Black - archives get a new 4K lick of paint, as does landmark Apocalypse Now documentary Hearts of Darkness, and the first two movies in the beloved Kung-Fu Panda series. Aussie shark thriller Dangerous Animals rounds out the week’s Ultra HD arrivals.
Finally, there’s a 10 movie Star Trek boxset featuring every movie with the original and Next Generation casts, and for the anime fans, a limited-edition boxset of Bleach Part 7.
Monday, 15th September

Variety is the spice of life, and we challenge you to find a week with new steelbooks as varied as this; cult 80s fantasy classic Krull, recent blockbuster hit Karate Kid: Legends, and acclaimed anime Serial Experiments Lain. Add in Collector’s Edition 4Ks of Shutter Island and The Graduate, and it’s a big week for new releases – and this is just scratching the surface.
Other 4K releases this week include early 2000s body horror In My Skin – a landmark of the French New Extremity movement – from Radiance, Ealing Studios’ Alec Guinness comedy The Man In The White Suit from Vintage Classics, and post-war Japanese classic The Burmese Harp from Criterion.
Next up, Curzon are bringing their latest Limited Edition director boxset, with the 14-disc complete collection of Austria’s master of misery Michael Haneke, featuring several films making their UK Blu-ray debuts. Radiance are releasing several titles including their latest volume of World Noir gems, Arrow Video are reissuing 2000s horror The Woods, and the fourth Collector’s Edition set of Naruto – comprising episodes 166 – 220 across eight discs – arrives promising the ultimate anime binge watch.
Monday, 22nd September

Ana de Amas slays her way home this week, with the 4K steelbook of John Wick spin-off Ballerina hitting shelves. Other steelbook releases include the 1990 remake of Night of the Living Dead, uncut in 4K and gorier than ever, and fans of 90s genre cinema should also pay attention to the 30th anniversary Deluxe Edition 4K of Hackers.
Other 4K releases this week include Sean Connery’s James Bond vehicles, available individually for the first time, the BFI’s remaster of Werner Herzog’s suitably surreal Nosferatu remake, and Australian New Wave masterpiece Walkabout, from Crtierion. If that wasn’t enough, Indicator have remastered two sleazy giallo flicks in ultra HD; The Perfume of the Lady in Black and Death Carries a Cane.
Finally, the complete series of Chucky gets a Blu-ray boxset, and Second Run have a gorgeous remaster of Kelly Reichardt’s heartbreaking Wendy and Lucy, starring Michelle Williams. See it before Reichardt’s latest film, heist movie The Mastermind, is released in cinemas in October.
Monday, 29th September

The month ends with its quietest week, but there are still two steelbooks here; classic anime series Ergo Proxy, and horror comedy sequel M3GAN 2.0. We’re rounding out the month with Arrow’s limited edition 4K of Creepshow 2, and Season 20 of vintage Doctor Who.
