Julian Fellowes' hit drama Downton Abbey returns for a second series with all the regular cast including Maggie Smith, Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, Brendan Coyle, Joanne Froggatt and Dan Stevens. Returning to Downton Abbey in 1916, we see the effects of The First World War on the lives of the Crawley family and the servants who work for them.
The new series sees the return of all the much loved characters whose intertwined lives are rendered more complicated by wartime and its impact on the great house itself. And when the storms of war have finally cleared, will the way of life known by all the inhabitants of Downton have changed forever?

Downton Abbey is subject to a couple of changes. Some of them are immediate consequences of the horrors of The Great War, others are the results of the typical mixture of self-inflicted chaos and the clashes of modern times and old ways. This year, some of the plots are a bit too much on the soapy side for my taste, but that doesn´t change the fact that the cast remains to be spectacularly well suited to deliver even the most silly lines of dialogue. That said, I enjoyed the return to Downton very much, though the changes in mood and topic reduced the fun a bit. It has to be mentioned that the series felt strangely at unease and lacked a proper, satisfying resolution. I strongly suggest that you buy the Christmas special, "Christmas at Downton" right together with Series 2, because it is the perfect bookend to last year´s series and manages to be a much better ending to the whole affair. What I don´t appreciate is that I am forced to buy Series 2 and the X-mas special separately, with the Special being rather pricey for a single episode.

Great series I hope there are more. British actors doing what they can do better then anyone else.
