Zavvi - The Home of Pop Culture

Mac (Peter Riegert) is a young executive who flies to Scotland to purchase an entire town on behalf of the oil company he works for, which is run by near-psychotic Happer (Burt Lancaster). The townsfolk seem happy enough to part with their town, although they drive a hard bargain. Meanwhile Mac, who was wrongly thought by his boss to be of Scottish descent, begins to take a liking to the little village. Bill Forsyth directs - in his usual quirky manner - this gentle comedy. Now for the first time on Blu Ray complete with special features.

Local Hero

Local Hero is one of my absolute favourites, and has been so since it was shown in cinemas in Sweden in 1983 or 1984. I've had the DVD for a long time and I have probably watched the movie 20-30 times, and I still find new little details to chuckle over. On the surface, it's a low-key situational comedy about an American sales executive falling in love with Scotland, but once you dive into it, there are so many layers and so many details that you may never really discover all of them. This blu-ray edition is the definitive version, containing not only the film at a significantly higher resolution, but also a lot of extras that give additional perspective on the film, and on the people behind it.
