For his second animated feature as director, Hayao Miyazaki adapted his own best-selling Manga to make this epic masterpiece. A huge success when released in Japan back in 1984, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind helped launch Studio Ghibli, and bears all the hallmarks of Miyazaki's later successes: fantastical worlds, great characters and stunning animation.
A thousand years after a great war, a seaside kingdom known as the Valley of the Wind is one of the only areas which remains populated. Led by the courageous Princess Nausicaä, the people of the Valley are engaged in a constant struggle with powerful insects called ohmu, who guard a poisonous jungle that is spreading across the Earth. Nausicaä and her brave companions, together with the people of the Valley, strive to restore the bond between humanity and the earth.

[Disclaimer: I'm not english, so my writing is far from perfect. Please bear with me] Since Hayao Miyazaki is a genius, it is no surprise to discover that he also made a manga like no other. That manga was "Nausicaa of the valley of the wind". When he was still drawing it, as often happens in Japan, he went for the animated movie. Maybe it was not such a good idea, because the movie felt "incomplete": either because he did not want to spoil the manga or because he had not decided how to finish it yet. So the movie is inferior to the manga. And still is a masterpiece. In "Nausicaa" we have each and any aspect of Miyazaki poetic: a girl strong enough to uphold her faith in life against a whole world that actively seeks death. Nature that still flourish and aggressively resist human folly. The rejection of any easy manicheism and the evidence that anyone can be a monster without being evil and that anyone can save anybody without being a saint. And, obviously, gorgeous scenarios, beautiful, funny or outright grotesque characters, fluid animation that can make you experience the vertigo of flight. The steelbox provide a nice addition to all and provides new and old Miyazaki fans with a durable memento of the Master's work of art. On a unrelated note. I have to commend Zavvy's Customer Care: unfortunately the fist shipping disappeared, but they provided a new one in the expected time with no additional charge. This marks a first class Customer Care.
