"1, 2, Freddy's coming for you." And here he is, phantom fiend Freddy Krueger in all his razor-fingered infamy. Wes Craven (Scream movies) directs this trendsetting first into the slash-hit series. The premise is simple: Freddy (Robert Englund) homicidally haunts the sleep of the Elm Street teens. The results are terrifying and mind-blowingly innovative. There's another film debut too: Johnny Deppy. He plays the ready steady of the hottie mcsmarty (Heather Langenkamp) who figures a clever way to flambe the fiend. But ever-say-die Freddy will be 3, 4 back for more...

terrible artwork they can't even be bothered to use original poster art and looks like back of the steelbook they got from Freddy vs Jason.
I'm not going to go over what a good movie the original Nightmare On Elm Street is, if you're reading this, you're most likely well aware of its standing in the horror genre and within the franchise. If by some remote chance you aren't aware; then I'll tell you, its absolutely worth owning and is the best Nightmare film by far. So, onto the release. The steelbook is nice. I wouldn't go so far as to say that it's exceptional - the graphics are nothing special even if the printing standard is high. The transfer is definitely superior to my DVD copy (from the New Line Platinum series Nightmare on Elm Street collection) and has a good selection of extras. I won't go as far as to say every one previously available is present here (they were previously on a separate 'labyrinth' encyclopedia disc (which is an immense interactive puzzle), so there's not a definitive list I can easily refer back to for comparison. All in all, definitely worth the price tag, especially if as a steelbook collector, one of your favoured genres is horror.
This is the one i've been waiting for, the steelbook to the classic original. Very nice artwork and an all round great addition to the collection. A must for fans of the original and another Zavvi exclusive must own steelbook.
We have been 'treated' to various Nightmare On Elm Street box sets, but let's face it, from 4-6 they are no more than black comedies. Then the first was announced on steelbook no less. This is a must have for any collector, movie fan or horror aficionado. Let me be clear, A Nightmare On Elm Street 1 is truly terrifying and has a superb cast from Robert England and introducing Johnny Depp. An amazing release and great extras. Zavvi have backed a winner here, improve your life and buy it
