A classic

A long forgotton classic horror from the pen of Stephen King. Searched for this film for ages and was surprised when it was released in steelbook. The artwork is of a high quality and the film is a must see again movie.

1970's American Gothic horror

This 1979 TV Movie adaptation of Stephen King’s novel was directed by the late Tobe Hooper, still renowned for the film ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.’ The format does mean that the timescale of the novel is compressed and there are limits to the violence they could show. Yet Hooper does a great job with the material. The floating vampire children scratching at the windows, has remained in the minds of viewers, with a lot of good building tension and jump scares. James Mason is enjoying himself as the henchmen of the vampire and the climax is set in a wonderfully gothic squalid house. Entertaining fun for fans of small-town horror and vampires.

Salem's Lot Steelbook Review

This blu-ray copy of this - one of the best Stephen King adaptations - ever - has been reviewed many times - it looks and sounds pretty damned good for a film from this period and that is all I need to say. BUT, focusing on the actual steelbook, itself - this is now the third steelbook from Zavvi and whilst depicting a great moment from the movie, on the front, the colour pallete of the image makes for a very flat looking image - a ghostly white figure in white-ish pj's against a white cloud of mist. The picture makes the image contrast probably better than the actual item. The title is cool as it has some nice embossing on it. The picture of Mr Barlow on the back is great and would have made a better cover. Inside...the Marsden house looks pretty good! Overall, not bad BUT let down by a 'meh' cover!

Still as scary as it was in childhood

Most people have seen this film on late night tv growing up. One of Stephen King’s greatest stories and one that has been adapted well. Yes, it’s dated, but that kind of adds to the appeal. There’s been umpteen steelbooks of Salem’s Lot - this one is by far the best. Embossed title and a great cover image, far better than Zavvi’s previous steelbook. An absolute steal at this price.

Lovely repackaging of a classic

Very handsome steelbook with striking illustration. Movie is as enjoyable as I reminded - Tobe Hooper is such a great fit for King’s work. One of James Mason’s best performances too. No need for a remake!

SALEMS LOT

This is probably one of the best vampire films ever made although made for TV the eeriness of the film will send shudders up your spine and make hairs on your head move, It’s main star at the time was better known for starsky and hutch which I know put a few Off because they did not see him in a horror movie, but that a side it’s better than some I have paid to see at the cinema and has kept its age well considering it was an 80s production, if you love your films that make You jump And you skin crawl with out all the nastiness of loads of blood then put this on turn the lights off I dare you and enjoy .......***** ......

Salem's Lot - Steelbook Blu-Ray

This has long been my favourite ever horror film, and its a very under-rated movie even now after 40 years plus, Tobe Hooper never got the plaudits he deserved in life, yes...I know he did not do much of note, two stand-out directorial efforts in a career beset my duds, but this, and Texas Chainsaw Massacre ensure his status arguably as a Horror icon. All the actor stars involved in this classic TV movie/series, are perfectly cast, and its beautifully played throughout, David Soul in a career defining role (forget Starsky & Hutch!!), Lance Kerwin as his eventual sidekick VampireHunter, Bonnie Bedelia as the Doomed love interest, and what can you say about veteran James Mason..wow what an understated evil turn as Mr Barlow's keeper and fixer (I don't think he was ever better)...the vampire scenes still raise the heckles on my back even now after watching it 20 odd times!! This Blu-Ray is a step up in quality for sure , but surely such a classic deserves the full treatment, many of the actors are still with us, why no commentarys or making of retrospectives, interviews etc, there are extra scenes from Japanese tv versions in existance, why can't these be added as extras on a Super Duper edition..Oh well I can Dream can't I...but until then this will do.

Salem's Lot

I remember watching this as a child and found it propper creepy. I recall that it was shown in two parts and my parents said if I didn't have any nightmares then I could watch the second part. I have watched it several times since and still enjoy it. So when I saw it was available as a Bluray Steelbook I just had to have it. The picture quality is better than the DVD and the colour is great, it's just a shame it is void of any extras.
