SPARTACUS BLOOD AND SANDS SERIES 1

This is an amazing series and plenty of action in every departments, it's really gripping from start to finish. You won't want the series to finish and John Hannah played a great part as well. I would recommend this box set to anyone who likes hard action and thrilling entertainment.

Get it

Not having sky I never saw the series but did hear the reviews. The series is excellent on every level. Production: in the style of 300 I think it works. Over stylised allows you to experience in full force something of the reality we cannot otherwise really imagine. Script: week at times although much of the profanity appears to be not at odds with the way they spoke. Acting: Stylised again but extremely well done. Story line. Fantastic. The whole is indeed greater than the sum of it’s parts. I watched them all back to back over 2 days and I think it’s better than the interruptions of broadcast. You get the ‘feel’ for the plot and the characters and maintain the momentum of the story. Like a good book it was hard to put down. I recently visited Pompeii and looking at the villas so badly ruined it was difficult to imagine how they might have been lived in. The villa of Batiatus gave such insight and brought to life those grand proud buildings standing testament to a real world 2000 years ago. The ludus at Pompeii had added dimension when you imagine the efforts of the gladiators that worked out in the training area. This series is an extremely good production. It seemed weak in the first episode but by the third I was hooked. The sex scenes appear to me to be representative of what happened in those times and not so graphic to be inappropriate but explicit enough to convey the morality of a lost culture. The scenes of violence again stylised and probably not so dramatic as real life, convey the horror faced in the arena in a way that we in our society can’t imagine without some prompting. In the way a 2 dimensional painting can convey the emotion of a 4 dimensional world this ‘series’ conveys a world lost in time and collective memory. As a glimpse into another time, as entertainment, as an adventure or a thriller it has it all. Take it for what it is, presented in a representative way giving a feeling of a world long, long gone and a way of spending 600 minutes in suspension of disbelief. You’re sure to enjoy it. Something for every one.
