The Book of Life 3D

5 stars out of a maximum of 5

The Dia De Los Muertos tradition provided a wonderful backdrop to build a story around that honors the Mexican culture. I really liked the unique take on modern music and the incorporation of it into the story. Songs like Biz Markie - Just a Friend or Radiohead - Creep really had me smiling. I like the actors that they cast for each character. I thought the film did a great job at connecting the viewers with the main characters, making them very likable. The visuals of this film were gorgeous with all the bright, vivid colors that gave the eye some Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by Book of Life. The 3D was quite good and I thought it added to the film overall. The already stunning visuals were only enhanced by the 3D immersion. There was a lot of depth to the image and a lot of texture and shape to the character models, as well. There were a couple of Pop-out effects, but it wasn't prominent throughout. A very solid 3D presentation. The audio aspect wasn't quite as impressive as the visuals, but was solid in it's own regard. The audio mix complimented the musical numbers of the film. Dialog and vocals were easily discernible, even through some of the more active sequences. However, I found it just slightly lacking in the extremity of the dynamics range.
