Series 1
Downton is the home of the Crawleys, who have been the Earls of Grantham since 1772. The family live in oppulence with tall windows looking across the park. Below stairs at Downton live the servants; some loyal to the family and committed to Downton, and others just moving through, on the look out for new opportunities, love or adventure. The Crawleys know so little about the lives of their staff, but the servants hold both the family's secrets and their own.

Julian Fellowes' hit drama Downton Abbey returns for a second series with all the regular cast including Maggie Smith, Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, Brendan Coyle, Joanne Froggatt and Dan Stevens. Returning to Downton Abbey in 1916, we see the effects of The First World War on the lives of the Crawley family and the servants who work for them.
The new series sees the return of all the much loved characters whose intertwined lives are rendered more complicated by wartime and its impact on the great house itself. And when the storms of war have finally cleared, will the way of life known by all the inhabitants of Downton have changed forever?

Downton Abbey is a great series with great actors, and an incredibly interesting historical and social background.
Downton Abbey is a great historical show with great actors and great dialogues. If you can get your hands on Downton Abbey Series 1-2 do not hesitate.
We put Series 1 on tonight of Downton Abbey and went though nearly all of it, can't wait to watch Series 2 now. Perfect viewing, I love it!
I've only watched 1 of these discs so far but I'm really enjoying it! I can't wait to watch the rest. It's an escape to a time when life seemed more gentle and everybody's dressing was elegant. Maggie Smith is as always, an incredible character, and perfect actress.
First of all, let's make one thing clear: Series like this one can only be made in England ! Everything is perfect. Location, actors, crew, director, the writing..... Perfect. Because of the "Upstairs Downstairs" situation we, the viewer, are left with opinions from all different sides of society. And because of the setting (just before the first World War) there are many, many changes to be had. So we can sympathize or dislike anyone we personally want to. We're part of the story. Buy buy buy.... and also buy the Christmas Special because there are some loose ends tide up in that one. And please please Julian Fellowes keep writing, you still have almost a hundred years to go.
Bought Downtown Abbey series 1 and 2 as I missed the TV series. Great buy.
This DVD is really good value for money, and both series of Downton Abbey are faultless. I would definitely recommend this pair of DVDs.
