Director Rupert Wyatt brings this action-packed blockbuster standing as a prequel to the popular Planet of the Apes series, starring Brian Cox (Manhunter), John Lithgow (3rd Rock from the Sun, Shrek) and Oscar nominee James Franco (Spider-man, 127 Hours).
Father and Son, Charles and Will Rodman (Lithgow, Franco) are two ambitious and extremely intellectual scientists from San Francisco. Their lives revolve around their work and all of their time is spent in the laboratory.
Their latest experiment involving a chimp named Caesar (Andy Serkis), has seen the two spend many years in the lab and they finally think that the hard work is about to pay off. With Caesar becoming more and more advanced by the day, there is a great risk that their genetic engineering has gone too far and Caesar is growing too intelligent.
Realising his own incredible strength, physically and psychologically, Caesar now sets out on a mission to lead an uprising of apes to take over mankind. Being the only people that truly know Caesar and what he’s capable of, can Charles and Will put a stop to Caesar’s reign of terror before it’s too late? (Matt Fairfield)

I wasn't the biggest fan of the orginal Planet of the Ape films, but this has completely turned it around, full of action and keeps you on edge wondering what would actually happen at the end.
Rise of the Planet of the Apes is a great film, I would recomend it to anyone to buy. Its a film u could watch over and over again and would suit any age.
I wasn't sure about Rise of the Planet of the Apes but I loved it. Brilliantly made with great effects and a gripping storyline. The storyline was fast moving and it was surprisingly believable! Well worth it!
This is without doubt one of the best of the sequel/prequels currently being shown. The story has amazing CGI and acting by those involved. Loved the ending and look forward to the next installment.
Good action and drama. I would recommend it to adults.
My husband has wanted to see this film for ages. He really enjoyed it.
Excellent service from Zavvi meant getting this dvd in time for my son's Christmas present. A great movie, thought provoking and amazing special effects... unless they used real apes! Recommended.
If you're a fan of the Planet of the Apes franchise then you'll love this. Full of nods and winks to the first film it successfully avoids the pitfalls that the less-than-popular Tim Burton version fell into. A reboot that starts with a logical set-up, an emotional hook - thanks to the acting of Andy Serkis, and a gripping yet fulfilling last act which nicely shows the inevitable divide between man and ape and sets itself up for a possible and welcome sequel. For a pre-apocalyptic film, the warmth and understanding that developed between Ceaser and James Franco's character makes for a peculiarly upbeat viewing.
excellent ilm well worth a watch
very good film as it explains how the apes got there intelingance & the specail effects were fantastic
I bought this for my daughter (42yrs old). We shall be watching it Christmas day as it is part of her Christmas present. I was very pleased with the service I received from Sendit.com I would recommend them to anyone.
I have seen the original Planet of the Apes movies and enjoyed them. I wondered what this movie could offer in terms of originality and improvement. It was obvious from the beginning that, not surprisingly, the special visual effects would be impressive - this is a very high standard in my opinion and made viewing easy on the eye and captivating. The chimpanzee's. gorilla and orangutan where so realistic. I like the way that we discover why the apes 'Rise' and I developed empathy for them. The movie begins with laboratories that are working on a cure for Alzheimers disease. Due a dangerous incident all animals are ordered to be destroyed and all are with the exception of an adorable bay chimpanzee. He will eventually become a valued and loved family member of the scientist who was developing a cure. Inquistive, strong, tenacious and extremely bright this young chimp becomes too much to handle in his adolescent years and the authorities remove him from his home - his new residence will prove to be a place of suffering but also liberation. The acting throughout the movie was quality and I liked the fact that some scenes and scenarios made me giggle - one scene made me cry too. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the film and would watch it again. Highly recommended.
ive seen this movie in the cinema and i recommend it to everyone the story line is really good and how the ape grows up but the movie is a little bit sad near the end
