Betrayed by his country. Beaten into slavery. Reborn as a warrior. Spartacus: Blood and Sand is a graphic and visceral account of Rome's most famous gladiator. When he's separated from the love of his life, Spartacus is forced into the gruesome and bloodthirsty arena, where a grisly death is primetime entertainment. Spartacus must fight for survival, befriend his enemies and play politics in this new world of corruption, violence, sex and fame. He'll be seduced by power and tormented by vengeance. But his passion will give him the strength to prevail over every obstacle, in this modern and uninhibited tale of death, honour and endurance.

I never saw this on TV as there is normally little made that is worth watching. What a mistake that was, this is the best bit of television made for some time. There is a good story line with intertwining plots, treachery, corruption, romance, male and female nudity and plenty of violence. My only complaint is that the blood effects are over the top. If that much blood came out of each cut a gladiator received they would have been dead in seconds and not be able to fight. The cast is not brimming with mega stars but the acting is very good. Names you may be able to put faces to are Lucy Lawless (Xena Warrior Princess) and John Hannah (The Mummy film series, Sliding Doors) who play two of the main characters.
Where to start it has action romance, fantastic fight scenes, and a pace that will keep you glued to your seat from start to finish. The sets, costumes and attention to detial are great want something to give as a gift this will tick box's for the boys and girls alike, and even for the Gladiator in all of us.
