Based on the novel by legendary pulp writer Jim Thompson, Michael Winterbottom's THE KILLER INSIDE ME tells the story of handsome, charming, unassuming small town sheriff's deputy Lou Ford.
Lou has a bunch of problems. Woman problems. Law enforcement problems. An ever-growing pile of murder victims in his West Texas jurisdiction. And the fact he's a sadist, a psychopath, a killer. Suspicion begins to fall on Lou, and it's only a matter of time before he runs out of alibis. But in Thompson's savage, bleak, blacker than noir universe nothing is ever what it seems, and it turns out that the investigators pursuing him might have a secret of their own.

This film is rather confusing and somewhat boring ... it is set in small Texas town and the film centres around a Sheriff who appears trustworthy but is anything but, in that he is serial killer. What spoiled the film was the violence towards women which was totally unnecessary. The plot is quite difficult to follow and subtitles would have helped as some of the actors voices were difficult to distinguish. Although I watched it to the end, it wasn't particularly enjoyable and had I known more about it, I probably wouldn't have wasted my time. I'm sorry but I wouldn't recommend this one.
If this is in your favourite genre of films you may think it a little lacking but enjoyable nonetheless....if you are just looking for something different than your usual rom-com or drama then you will enjoy even more. There were definite moments when I could feel the tension, and it is definitely an enjoyable film for all adults.
The film is very much character driven, all are written extremely well including the peripheral characters. The whole cast act wonderfully. The plot is complex, and fast paced, and if you contextualise the violence, it’s entertaining from beginning to end. Especially the ending which is shocking enough to leave you as open-mouthed as anything in the Exorcist.
Make no mistake, this is a very adult movie and anyone under 18 should stay well away from it. But it's also rich and very rewarding, and for my money Casey Affleck is turning into one of the film world's finest actors. Great film. Tough though!
Stacy Keach puts in a great performance as a psychotic deputy sheriff who has fits of a brutally violent nature during flashbacks of his childhood. However, a weak and meandering script, and poor performances from the supporting cast make this barely watchable.
