Classic Pack

Great limited edition set of the 60's Dalek movies on Bluray. In this set, both discs are included within a single case with outer cardboard slipcase of gold metallic design. The artwork is striking and both movies look the best ever. Dr Who and the Daleks includes a commentary by Jennie Linden and Roberta Tovey. Some nice, though brief extras. Zavvi had the best price on this set!

Daleks on Blu-Ray !!

The chance to enjoy any Doctor Who related title in High Def is one I can't resist... THE MOVIES: These movies won't be to everyone's taste and they are certainly a product of their time - most prominently due to the jazzy soundtrack and slapstick humour. The cast give wonderful performances and, if you can get over some of the sillier make-up appliances, you should have a wonderful time watching them. Whilst both movies do have darker elements I prefer the Dalek Invasion for it's, literally, down to earth setting and the fact that the struggles of humanity under alien invasion show every aspect of human behavior (both selfless and selfish). AUDIO/VIDEO: I'm glad to say that these movies look much more detailed than ever before - with a better use of aspect ratio, showing more of the screen than ever before for the most part (occasionally some image information appeared to be missing on the right hand side compared with the previous DVD release though). However these releases appear a little on the bright side for me and could have done with a little more contrast - but that is a minor quibble (and depends upon individual taste). Audio seemed top notch - any previously missing pieces of audio appear to have been re-inserted and the soundtrack is free from clicks and crackles...a nice extra feature explains how this was achieved. PACKAGING: This 2 discs are housed in a single sized blu-ray case holding a disc for each movie - plus (at least on the initial run) a very attractive, foil/metallic, card slip-cover. I must say the art on this edition is a great deal more interesting than that of the almost monochrome individual release (though I do wish the slip-cover had been embossed). EXTRA FEATURES: Not the most awe inspiring, but the commentary on Dr. Who and the Daleks is interesting and the Dalekmania documentary a lot more essential. The set also includes interview puff-pieces - which are fun, but not very revealing and technical featurettes, which are OK, but there is much misinformation from the interviewee, so it's best to take what he says with a pinch of salt. SUMMARY: A fun-filled, action packed, slapstick few hours entertainment. Enjoyable if you don't take any of it too seriously seriously and don't expect the films to reflect much of the detail from the television series.
