23 numbers out of 23

Jim Carrey once again teams up with renowned Director Joel Schumacher (For those who don't know him, most famous for the tail end of the 90s batman films and Colin Farrell's incarceration in a Phone Booth) Luckily Number 23 is more like Phone Booth than Jim's ball grabbing interpretation of the Riddler. Some may find it hard to watch him without thinking about his previous movie outings that have him mince around on screen making gurning faces and bizzare voices. However, he does a good job here performance wise and doesn't stray too much into his saturday night live characters. He plays an animal control officer (bit of a wink to pet detective personally) who reads a book called number 23. The book itself leads Carreys character to become obsessed with numbers and the books plot. Clues and findings follow in waves. It's a mixture of already tread on plot devices combining the who wrote it plot point with a M. Night Shyamalan twist with stylish effects and shots. I won't give too much away but the film does go at a decent pace while still keeping character interesting and not just going with the motions. The supporting cast here is able but do not really stick out here. The main focus here is Carrey and he doesn't disappoint. Definitely worth a look on Blu-Ray.
