Description

The Glory Days of British Steam Branch Lines & Byways: Branch lines and secondary routes have always had a special appeal. This programme recalls many such English byways in films made in the 1950s and 60s. The railways portrayed ran through landscapes which ranged from the green and pleasant shires of rural England to the very heart of the Metropolis. Most of the lines covered in this programme had been closed by the end of the 1960s. Those who knew these lines will have pleasant memories revived by the films and for those who did not get the chance to travel on them in their heyday, this will be a revelation of a lost era. All connoisseurs of minor railways will find this programme a welcome addition to their collection. The Glory Days of British Steam British Narrow Gauge: Whilst narrow gauge railways were never as significant in Britain as they were in Ireland, many fascinating lines were operated over the years, some of which are still very much in business. This programme, which explores both well known and almost forgotten narrow gauge byways throughout Britain from the west of Scotland to the south coast of England, not forgetting the Isle of Man, will be a delight for all of those interested in the narrow gauge and minor railways of Britain. The Glory Days of British Steam The Bluebell Line: The Bluebell Line was the UK s first preserved standard gauge passenger railway, re-opening part of the Lewes to East Grinstead line of the old London, Brighton & South Coast Railway in 1960. Since then it has preserved for posterity a country branch line, its steam locomotives, coaches and goods stock, signalling systems, stations and operating practices. Now you too can enjoy the wonderfully preserved Bluebell Line with this nostalgic look at one of Britain s most loved lines. The Glory Days of British Steam Heritage Railways: This series of classic archive and new footage takes a nostalgic look back at Britain s Heritage Railways. This programme includes a section of cine archive footage from the 1970 s and early 1980 s features mainline pioneers number 6000 King George V and number 4472 Flying Scotsman, including sequences of them double headed on the special Atlantic Venturers Express rail tour. Also features takes in the spectacular North Yorkshire Moors Gresley 100 celebrations which spanned three consecutive weekends, and included number 60800 Green Arrow, B1 number 61264 and a whole host of teak panelled coaching stock.
