Although I've seen Life on Mars Complete Box Set - Series 1 and 2 several times, it's just so imaginatively written and well-acted that it deserves a space in the disc library. John Simm has never been better, and Philip Glenister is brilliant alongside a troupe who also excel. It's completely bonkers but perfect entertainment.
Having grown up in the era in which 'Life on Mars' is set, I find the whole series is very true to its setting. Whilst the premise of the series is a bit farfetched, it is very enjoyable viewing, with Philip Glenister being the stand out player. I cringe at some of the fashions and hairstyles. Well worth watching - and buying if you like good quality television with a twist.
Life on Mars is full of wonderful music, great one liners from Phil Glenister, which are simply classics! We originally sold this once we'd watched it, and then bought the follow up series, "Ashes to Ashes". The whole story came together and we just had to buy the first series again and won't part with it again. Clearly delighted that Zavvi had it in stock at an excellent price. Even if you weren't around in the 70's or 80's, (I was!) the music, fashions and culture were electric and seeing some of the things I owned and used to wear is a great trip down memory lane. However put the sets and costumes together deserves a medal. Highly recommended. Just sad the series ended.
As a retired copper who joined in the mid 70's, so much of this series is remarkably accurate and brought back so many memories, how life in the job was then to how it became when I retired in 2004. The series is wonderfully put together and asks of the viewers to question what is real and what might be fantasy. And having worked it out, the script writers throw in another curved ball to have you guessing again. I saw some of the series when aired on the TV but never got to see the last couple of episodes. The ending is just brilliant and can I say to the script writers, you were so right in doing that way and I defy anyone not to have a lump in their throat at the end. The boxed set of series one and two are well worth the asking price, buy it and enjoy it you will not be disappointed.
