Love Thy Neighbour takes a lighthearted look at the problem of colour through the eyes of a white couple, Eddie and Joan Booth and a black couple, Bill and Barbie Reynolds, who move in next door.
Starring Kate Williams and Jack Smethurst as Joan and Eddie Booth and Nina Baden-Semper and Rudolph Walker, Eastenders, as Barbie and Bill Reynolds, this popular 70’s British sitcom helps to take some of the heat out of race relations by showing the funny side of everyday conflict.
Love Thy Neighbour – The Complete Collection contains all 8 series across 8 discs.

Love thy neighbour great series from the 70s I use zavvi all the time for my dvds never been disapointed with any item I've sent for. And that says a lot always arrive on time emailed letting me know about item when it's due exetra so keep up the good work zavvi I will keep buying as long as your keeping the prices down at your end . Mr Alan deary a very satisfied zavvi purcheser.
Absolute classic old school comedy. If you can look past the racist names (sometimes a little uncomfortable in today's climate of political correctness) it is very obvious that Eddie (the white neighbour) is the complete idiot and the loser in the battles between the neighbours. For those who like Patrick in Eastenders it is great to see him in such a great comedic role. You will find yourself laughing whilst cringing at the name calling and racism that was so apparent in those days.
To get the Love Thy Neighbour - The Complete Series at this price is extremely good value, albeit the picture quality of a few of the episodes were slightly sub-standard. I loved the series back in the 70s and really enjoyed watching them all back again although Nina Baden-Semper's acting skills do leave a lot to be desired!
Love Thy Neighbour - The Complete Series was written and performed at a time when the 'political correctness police' were not born. People in this era had the capability to distinguish between fun and vitriol. It is good fun and a laugh a minute. This type of humour does not appear on TV anymore, but still exists to some extent in pub comedy where the PC police rarely venture. It's a trip back to better humour. It's well worth the money.
This TV series would not be made today. But look beyond the overt racist dialogue and racial stereotyping (both black and white) and this is a historic piece of television. Yes it looks dated but it is a reflection of the times - both economic and social and for those that grew up in the 70s it is still funny stuff. I bought this to show my kids what things were like when I was growing up and the ridiculousness of it all. Well worth a viewing!
Has kept me amused for days. If you can get past the language used it is very funny. I was born in the sixties and grew up in the seventies and recognised the caricatured stereotyped bigotry that prevailed at the time. It taught me tolerance then and has reinforced it again by doing it by putting a smile on my face at the same time.
Have only watched a few episodes so far so this review is limited. This series is not for anyone remotely PC, but for anyone in the late 60s, early 70s and coming into contact with the Jamaican communities it is an hilarious reminder of the past. The pilot episode is fine but much of the material is repeated in the first episode. The actress playing Joan is better in the series proper. Also, although this claims to be the complete collection one episode from the 5th series "April fool" is missing. Overall a good series for the money
Thanks to me subscribing to the regular Zavvi e-letter I got wind of this complete series box set (and at Zavvi's ridiculously low price too as an added incentive/bonus too) of a much loved series I watched as a kid with my dad as we laughed at regularly, and had hitherto forgotten about. If like me you're from that great bygone era - the likes of which shall never be seen again - or a curious 'youngster' then buy and relive/enjoy (and be shocked) Love Thy Neighbour is a great comedy series.
After purchasing Love Thy Neighbour box set, I am over the moon with the services from Zavvi and the product itself. The first thing I was pleased about was the price. Fantastic prices for products in fantastic qualities. Love Thy Neighbour is one of the best British comedies I have ever watched, and there is not a single moment in the series that have made me want to turn it off.
This box set is side-splittingly funny, there are not many programmes that the whole familly sits and watches together, but my daughter actually moaned at me when I watched an episode while she was out. The clothes may be dated but the humour has not,I cannot recommend this series highly enough-buy it and enjoyLove Thy Neighbour - The Complete Collection (Not Complete Series) [DVD]!
