Welcome To The Carrington Institute

Created by the popular video-game developer Rare, Perfect Dark was released in 2000. In the game, players take on the role of Joanna Dark, who is an agent of the Carrington Institute research centre in the year 2023. She is thrust into the midst of an interstellar war taking place between the Maians (grey-skinned aliens) and the Skedar (reptilian creatures with the ability to cloak themselves as Nordic men).

The Carrington Institute, founded by Daniel Carrington, works alongside the Maians in opposition to dataDyne, led by Cassandra de Vries. Seeking to become the largest corporation on Earth, dataDyne bargains with the Skedar for powerful alien technology.

Joanna Dark, codenamed ‘Perfect Dark’, is the player character. Her role in the narrative is to protect the interests of the Carrington Institute, heading out on dangerous assignments on the organisation’s behalf.

Following the game’s release, it received a number of awards, including the BAFTA Interactive Entertainment Moving Images Award (2000). To this day, it remains popular amongst fans.
