Russia Strikes Again

Red Alert 2 is the Sequel to the 1996 hit Red Alert from Westwood Studios the event of this game continue on from the Ham-Fisted time altered world after overcoming the Soviets, now they have a new leader who decide they should invade the US again. Red Alert uses many of the mechanics that are established and frequently used in Command and Conquer Series, the games world is viewed from an Isometric Viewpoint which was pretty standard for the games. The game Controls are the same as the previous CnC games, the units are easy to select and move in groups who are capable of navigating the map’s terrain, they are capable of autonomously fire any enemy they target and are able to follow orders. The Game’s Interface is easy to use and the Lower portion has various Tabs that show what building and units you are able to create, red alert 2 will also let you set up a Queue of Multiple Units to be Produce, Set Rally Points and allows the Customization of the hot keys to your preference. The interface is significantly different from the Previous CnC Games, Red alert 2 allows you to build from all the Tabs Simultaneously and gives the game a much faster pace since you can oversee all the creation of Base defenses and Infrastructure at once which also the game’s resource management interesting. As with all Command and Conquer games, Red Alert 2 requires you harvest your resources from mineral by using a specialized mining vehicles, the Harvester will start automatically and move between the Refinery and the Mineral Field, your Harvester are not a complete liability. Actually, they are distinctly different between the game's factions - the Allied miner instantly teleports back to its refinery when it has reached full. Capacity if you need to rescue it in a pinch, you can also make it teleport back to base at will. The Soviet miner is more self-reliant; it's heavily armored, and it packs a powerful machine gun that can hold it’s own against groups of infantry and light vehicles. The characteristic of these two units also shows the difference betweens the Two Sides, they can be evenly matched, but there are some units very Different Such as the Chrono Legionnaire he is capable of warping to any part of the Map and it’s weapon removes the enemy Units and even Buildings out of time and the Soviets have a Robotic Spider Drone that burrow under the ground and attacks vehicles and rip them apart from inside. Some of game’s units are surprisingly powerful and some of higher level ones can decimate bases in small groups like the Soviets aptly named Apocalypse Tanks. Each side also possesses super weapons which cause heavy damage, the Soviets have Nuclear Weapons and the Allies have the use of a Weather Control Device. The game automatically issues an alert whenever these weapons are used. The game also include some very unlikely units such as Dolphins to protect the Allies Ships from the attacks of the Soviets Squids The Graphics in Red Alert 2 are Colourful and Detailed, though the units can become difficult to distinguish when playing at higher resolutions. All units react when you select as well as when order them to move or attack with speech and the respective voice clips are different for all units, though the drawback is the speech does start to become repetitive after a short time, the music is almost a different to previous as has more of a heavy metal feel compare to the Industrial Music in the previous installments. Red Alert 2 Features a Campaign for the Soviets and the Allies which consists of about a dozen missions each, the missions themselves are varied from Residential Areas, Flat Plains and Deserts. Troops can be garrisoned inside Buildings and you are also to lay claim to Hospitals and Airports, to give you and added advantage. Red Alert 2 also contains Full Motion Video Sequences between all missions, and they are all purposefully silly and Tongue in Cheek. The videos are well made and generally amusing, you may also recognize some of the actors such as Kari Wuhrer as Tanya and Udo Kier as the Soviet Psychic Yuri. Once finished with the games campaigns you take of the games multiplayer mode, there are multiple multiplayer variations, in additions to multiple options for disabling superweapons and others. As opposed to only the Soviets and Allies, you actually pick a country and each one a unique unit to each side such as Korea has a Black Eagle Aircraft and Libya’s Demolition Truck Red Alert 2 is lighthearted. From the Funny full-motion video sequences to the heavy metal music to the unit designs reminiscent of toys, whether or not you enjoy the game’s style, you will find that Red Alert 2 is a good game, from the interface to its play mechanics and multiplayer mode. Red Alert 2 offers lots of challenges and variety for players of all skill levels
