Despite his enduring status as one of Britain's best-loved entertainers, Our Miss Fred represents a rare foray onto the big screen for Danny La Rue. Here he plays Shakespearean actor Fred Wimbush, called up for service during the Second World War. Sent to war-torn France, Wimbush is appearing in drag in a camp variety show when the Nazis arrive. His only hope for survival is to remain in costume and pass as a woman. In his efforts to escape, Wimbush falls in with a party of schoolgirls whose boisterous antics would put the St Trinian's to shame.
Directed by Britcom regular Bob Kellett (Are You Being Served?, Up Pompeii) and featuring a steady stream of hilarious double entendres, Our Miss Fred recalls classic Hollywood comedies I Was A Male War Bride and Some Like It Hot, and reveals La Rue at the height of his comic powers.
