From some of the biggest franchise flicks of all time to a treasure trove of rediscovered cult gems, there’s a typically varied selection of films making their 4K physical media debuts in June.

As always, our monthly guide to the biggest steelbook and Limited-Edition Blu-ray releases is subject to change but based on the release dates at the time of writing, it’s going to be even more stacked than usual. Don’t be fooled by the relatively quiet first couple of weeks – it's the calm before the storm that will be hitting your wallet.

Here’s our week-by-week guide to June’s new physical releases.

Monday, 2nd June

Arrow Video have spread their latest wave of restorations throughout the month, but for vintage action fans, they’re kicking off with their best; the Collector’s Edition 4K set of Road House. It’s a landmark lowbrow title in a week packed with schlock, ranging from a Collector’s Edition 4K of American Pie 2 from 88 Films, horny Italian hippie thriller Oasis of Fear from Shameless Screen Entertainment, and the recent George R.R Martin adaptation In The Lost Lands.

For something a little bit more highbrow, Curzon are bringing back Tilda Swinton’s breakthrough role in Orlando in 4K, and the Criterion Collection have remastered the late Iranian auteur Abbas Kiarostami's acclaimed arthouse masterpiece The Wind Will Carry Us.

Monday, 9th June

A trio of steelbooks arrive this week, each one different to the last. The director’s cut of Ridley Scott’s epic Kingdom Of Heaven has been remastered in 4K, released alongside the Nicole Kidman erotic drama Babygirl, and the first season of Dexter Original Sin.

Arrow Video are resurrecting thrillers from two very different eras of Hollywood; the sleek 70s cool of The Taking Of Pelham 123, and the turn-of-the-Millennium digital chic of Swordfish, both with a new 4K lick of paint. The latest Hammer title to return is the big-screen Quatermass XPeriment in a limited collector’s edition, the gorgeous, influential French musical The Umbrellas of Cherbourg enters the Criterion collection, and Curzon have three controversial films from directors Lars Von Trier – Dancer in the Dark, The Idiots and Dogville – in special editions.

Monday, 16th June

The Arrow titles keep coming this week, with Harrison Ford going undercover with the Amish in 80s thriller Witness, joined by a stellar and varied selection of landmark titles from throughout cinema history. Vintage Classics take us back to the 1940s with the definitive British noir The Third Man, and to the dark side of the swinging sixties with their 60th anniversary edition of Darling.

We hop back to the 1980s with the “Complete Novel” edition of The Outsiders – Francis Ford Coppola’s fancy term for his latest director’s cut of his underrated coming-of-age tale. Second Sight’s limited-edition 4K set of The Nice Guys rounds out this week’s selection of high-def bangers, although the Blu-ray rereleases of From Beyond the Grave and Frankenstein 1970 from Warner Bros. Archive and the complete series boxset of Star Trek Lower Decks keep the excitement coming.

Monday, 23rd June

This isn’t just the busiest week of the month for new releases – it's probably the busiest week we’ve seen so far this year. Kicking things off are steelbooks of Lethal Weapon, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Luc Besson’s early French thriller Subway, and recent Jack Quaid action-adventure Novocaine.

Next up, three new titles from Arrow Video including 4K restorations of Dark City and The Good, The Bad & The Ugly, the Limited-Edition 4K of Aussie horror hit Talk To Me from Second Sight, and a limited-edition set of cult 90s monster movie Castle Freak from 101 Films. And then, there are the extensive list of titles from 88 Films, including 4K restorations of cult horror (Species), blockbuster comedy (American Pie 3: The Wedding & American Pie: Reunion), and Asian classics ranging from Come Drink With Me to Armour of God 2, to name just a few of their launches.

The final 4K releases of the week are Hammer’s restoration of Four-Sided Triangle, the controversial Jack Nicholson drama Carnal Knowledge from Indicator, and Todd Solondz’s discomforting comedy Palindromes, which is the first-ever 4K release from Radiance. Other Indicator titles this week include a new restoration of beloved 90s thriller Single White Female, whilst Radiance has a stacked slate which includes volume 3 of their World Noir boxsets, and the silent horror masterpiece Haxan.

Rounding out the week, Second Run are bringing acclaimed Brazilian satire Divine Love to the UK with a long-awaited physical release.

Monday, 30th June

We’re ending the month with six steelbooks, including three mammoth collections; the 6-film Sean Connery James Bond collection, and the Jurassic Park and World trilogies. They’ll be hitting shelves alongside Sylvester Stallone’s arm-wrestling adventure Over the Top, a reprint of The Mask of Zorro, and Disney’s live action Snow White.

Finally, Curzon’s long-awaited limited-edition 4K of the Oscar winning animation Flow, three Superman animations from Warner Bros and A Minecraft Movie round up the month’s Ultra HD releases, whilst surreal Japanese headscratcher The Box Man (from Third Window), Italian shark movie The Last Shark (from Treasured Films), and 90s indie sensation Thirty Two Short Films About Glenn Gould (from Criterion) wrap up the month.
