Redmond Barry is an Irish country boy who falls in love with a well-to-do local girl and is subsequently tricked by her family into leaving town. Disillusioned with love, the brokenhearted youngster embarks on an adventure which sees him serve in the Seven Years War, earn a living as a professional gambler, and eventually move into the higher ranks of society, when he meets and marries the beautiful Lady Lyndon. Despite the luck that has brought him such riches, it is this final move, the cynical choice to marry for social advancement rather than love, which brings about his downfall.

The Barry Lyndon Limited Edition 4K Ultra HD Steelbook is a stunning release and a must-have for Kubrick fans. The steelbook looks elegant and premium, and the 4K picture quality is absolutely gorgeous — rich detail, natural colours, and incredible depth throughout. The audio is clear and well balanced, and while extras are limited, the overall presentation more than makes up for it. A fantastic addition to any 4K or steelbook collection. Highly recommended!
When I ordered this I was under the impression that I was getting just the 4k disc but surprisingly it came together with a blu ray disc that is less than spectacular being in the 1.85:1 resolution and hence being cropped at the top and bottom. Thankfully the 4k itself came in Kubrick's preferred 1.66:1 and is excellent. Also I have still have my Criterion Blu ray on hand I've decided not to sell this but to have a different version of the film to watch on hand. The steelbook itself is excellent and a delightful change is that the central hub is not too tight making it easier to remove the discs without excessive bending and risking breakage. Buy this if you are looking at the 4k but if you want the blu ray I'd advise getting the Critierion one.
