Goodfellas - The Film Vault Range 4K Ultra HD (includes Blu-ray)

It is unfortunately the same transfer we got earlier, but I’m a completionist so had to pick this release up. If you already own this on 4K and not particularly interested in amazing artwork and presentation, I’d hold off. I personally love this release though

I am not going the review the film. I am reviewing this product. The presentation is amazing. The packaging is A+++++. The material they use is top notch and it will look great in any persons movie room. The post cards, material, and extra stuff are top notch and believe the other reviewers that it is a large set. Now the minus: 4k of the film is incredible and has all the commentaries from the previous versions. Yet, the second disc is the same disc as the 4k without any additional supplements. Previous editions had a supplements such as: Scorsese's Goodfellas (1080p; 1.78:1; 29:54): Produced by Brett Ratner, this new retrospective documentary isn't quite what is described on the Blu-ray's back cover, which lists several interviewees who don't appear (namely, Jack Nicholson and Joe Pesci). But it's still a fine documentary filled with memorable stories and observations from a wide array of commentators. Participants from the Goodfellas clan include Scorsese, Pileggi, Liotta, De Niro, Bracco, editor Thelma Schoonmaker and producer Irwin Winkler. Additional participants include Harvey Keitel, Leonardo DiCaprio and Terence Winter, creator of Boardwalk Empire and screenwriter of The Wolf of Wall Street.Book: The 36-page book contains a fine collection of film and production stills and an insightful essay entitled "The American Dream Gone Mad: The Legacy of Goodfellas" and finally a Letter: Scorsese's letter summarizes his artistic goals for the film and acknowledges his collaborators.I like the idea of films having this type of attention. But I hope in future additions they consider the movie lover and content and supplement. Yet, this is a great looking set that will look good any movie lover room.

I had never seen Goodfellas before this Blu Ray release. So I bought it after hearing many great things (such as being on the AFI Top 100 Movies list and a friend recommending it over the Godfather) and while I can't comment on how it compares to the Godfather (that's in the post now) I can say it was really superb. Even at close to 2 and a half hours, it doesn't feel too long. Brilliant cast and especially good performances by Pesci and de Niro, this is simply a must see movie in my book. I'll admit that the sections regarding Harry's home life weren't as interesting as the actual crime parts and this movie isn't directly about the mafia (as Harry explains, he's not allowed to join because of his half-Irish heritage) so it was a little disappointing in that regard but it's a very minor niggle and doesn't affect it overall. Blu-ray release looks good on picture although not a massive leap in terms of sound due to the fact that the movie is generally dialogue driven and there isn't a lot of action or ambiance. I'd still say it's worth the extra though.

A must have collectors edition of Goodfellas 4K with Robert De Niro Joe Pesci and tribute to Ray Liotta one of the greatest gangsters movies ever made

Stunning box set would be 5 star but this is my favourite film and upscale to 4 k is as original very poor. A lot of greedy companies out there.

Please don't buy this if you are expecting a pristine 4K transfer because it isn't, I own this film on Blu Ray also and it's the same as the 4K version, on the goodside I'm really pleased with the whole collection and so pleased I purchased it, it's well worth the money. Excellent collection. My equipment used is a LG G1 TV 55" with a Panasonic DP-UB820EBK Smart 3D 4K UHD HDR 4K player.
