Ghost not whispering

Having been spoiled by the original movie and the stand alone complex series' I guess my expectations were high for Arise. However I find myself disappointed. Firstly the animation is not great, movements and fight scenes seem sluggish. The stories are confusing and don't make much sense. It feels like they are trying to make it complicated for the sake of creating intrigue, but instead made it messy. Lastly I don't know why but in 5.1 surround, the music appeared to be surround sound but none of the effects... maybe just me? Other 5.1 movies such as dread don't seem to have this problem on my system. There are some good aspects. Number one the music. Although over used does work well for many of the scenes. Don't be fooled though it is in no way on par with Yoko Kanno's music for SAC. The SG effects are a lot better than a lot of the animation which was a relief. Overall, enjoyable to watch but won't go out of my way to watch the next parts.
