Zavvi - The Home of Pop Culture

UK Exclusive Limited Edition Steelbook. In resourceful orphan Hugo Cabret (Asa Butterfield, an Oliver Twist-like charmer), Martin Scorsese finds the perfect vessel for his silver-screen passion: this is a movie about movies (fittingly, the 3-D effects are spectacular). After his clockmaker father (Jude Law) perishes in a museum fire, Hugo goes to live with his Uncle Claude (Ray Winstone), a drunkard who maintains the clocks at a Paris train station. When Claude disappears, Hugo carries on his work and fends for himself by stealing food from area merchants. In his free time, he attempts to repair an automaton his father rescued from the museum, while trying to evade the station inspector (Sacha Baron Cohen), a World War I veteran with no sympathy for lawbreakers. When Georges (Ben Kingsley), a toymaker, catches Hugo stealing parts for his mechanical man, he recruits him as an assistant to repay his debt. If Georges is guarded, his open-hearted ward, Isabelle (Chloë Moretz), introduces Hugo to a kindly bookseller (Christopher Lee), who directs them to a motion-picture museum, where they meet film scholar René (Boardwalk Empire's Michael Stuhlbarg). In helping unlock the secret of the automaton, they learn about the roots of cinema, starting with the Lumière brothers, and give a forgotten movie pioneer his due, thus illustrating the importance of film preservation, a cause to which the director has dedicated his life. If Scorsese's adaptation of The Invention of Hugo Cabret isn't his most autobiographical work, it just may be his most personal.

Hugo 3d

As with previous reviews why no 2d disc as advertised film good

Did NOT include 2D version as stated.

Presented as having both 3D and 2D versions. Item only includes 3D

Good movie and ok steel book.

The movie was a Sorcese masterpiece. This review is about the steel book. There seems a manufacturing defect in the steel book as I received a replacement copy and it also had scratch marks at the bottom. The artwork is simple and glossy. The 3D logo could have been avoided. For a sale price of 6 pounds it was worth it.

Hugo 3D Steelbook

Fantastic film and lovely looking steelbook, very colourful, great film

Excellent movie.

This is one of the best 3D movies made to date. The depth is incredible. The steelbook is high gloss but they all suffer from manufacturing scratches along the bottom and inconsistant small paint chips. Still for 5.99 an absolute bargain, cheaper and better than plastic. Just caution if mint is what you want, none of the steelbooks are.

Disappointed

This is just a review of the Steelbook not the movie. Loved the movie but this Steelbook is very underwhelming. The artwork isn't any different from the original and there's no embossing or debossing. Looks like a piece I could buy at at big retailer. Disappointed for sure.

A wonderful Movie!

I love the steelbook! And the movie deserves to have a good steelbook release! I would buy this.

Hugo steelbook

An excellent steelbook, absolutely lovely to look at, making a more desirable edition of this beautiful looking 3D film

No embossed frame and title

The first Hugo Cabret Stellbook was nice but noch embossed and for this reason i ordered this Zavvi steelbook because the most steelbook are embossed but this not. The only different are the backtprint is now the frontprint and the new backprint ist were the two kids are in cinema. Inside the same picture are in black and white. Iam very disappointed because a wont to have a embossed Steelbook !

Magical film with a steelbook to match (mostly)

The film itself really is a masterpiece and one of my favourites by Scorsese. The setting of the train station that he has created within Paris is full of warmth and character and this stretches to each of the individual characters. The story is very different but is wonderfully told which is helped by an excellent cast. The front of the steelbook is fantastic, depicting a key moment of the film without giving anything away. It's a bright and very striking design with a full gloss effect which continues to the back. The rear shows another key moment but this time one of the many excellent and memorable examples of the fantastic character development. Although it is a generally nice steelbook there are a couple of issues regarding cropping and positioning. The title on the front isn't as pictured and Scorsese's name is scraping the top of the case which takes away from the neatness and makes it that little bit ugly. Also on the back the image has been stretched a little too far, so the characters faces (played by Asa and Chloe) have the very sides of their heads slightly cropped off. In general though it is still a nice steelbook and definitely recommended for fans of the film.
