The little victories of the quirky Takashi Yamada and his wacky wife Matsuko are followed in this touching animation from Studio Ghibli. The Yamadas navigate their way through the ups and downs of work, marriage and family life, with a sharp-tongued grandmother who lives with them, a teenage son who wishes he had cooler parents, and a pesty daughter whose loud voice is unusual for someone so small. Even the family dog has issues! Featuring the voice talents of comedic stars Jim Belushi and Molly Shannon. Humourous and heartbreaking, MY NEIGHBOURS THE YAMADAS shows us how one family copes with life's little conflicts, problems and joys in their own way.

I bought this to go with my collection. I had never seen it before and hadn't even heard of it before, it certainly doesn't come up on other streaming sights where ghiblis can be found so had to buy it. Its great piece, very cutesy and a lovely art style.
Beautifully made animation with a different art style that makes it stand out. Really fun story of the ups and downs of everyday family life. Worth a watch.
Bought as a gift and got a great price for a good quality steelbook.
My Neighbours the Yamadas is gentle, episodic film that nicely articulates the ups and downs of family life. It pokes into the minutiae of the lives of each member of the household with affection and understanding, showing their fantasies as well as their realities. The animation is very different from what you might think of as 'classic' Studio Ghibli, but it works well for what is being presented. The bluray is very good - a good step up over the DVD.
